The Digital Systems Engineering Department (DSED), part of SED, helps customers adopt, integrate, and use digital system models, methods, tools, and best practices. Job Summary Senior Systems Engineer with a focus on Digital & Systems Engineering. The role involves planning, executing, and leading project teams that research, identify, and implement innovative DE and MBSE approaches for new and existing space and defense systems. The engineer advises internal Aerospace and external government customers on the effective use of DE and MBSE methodologies, tools, and practices. What You'll Be Doing Research, develop, and analyze systems CONOPs, architecture and design models using modeling languages such as SysML, UAFML, BPMN, RAAML, OWL, and others to support customers at all levels of abstraction. Develop model patterns, libraries, templates, and reusable patterns for projects. Advise customers on MBSE methods, languages, and toolsets that meet their systems engineering lifecycle use cases. Develop Aerospace, ETG, program office, and government customers on DE and MBSE concepts, principles and practices. Create training materials, papers, and presentations on DE/MBSE topics for Aerospace, its customers, and professional societies. Represent Aerospace interests in professional DE/MBSE standards working groups and committees. Provide technical and project‑level leadership, mentoring and tasking oversight to early and mid‑career staff. Corporate Skills You’ll Bring Strong written and oral communication skills. What You Need to Be Successful B.S. degree in aerospace, systems, electrical, mechanical engineering, computer science, or related field. 12+ years of experience in systems engineering across at least two technical areas, including CONOPs development, requirements definition, architecture & design, system analysis, and system integration & test. Proficiency with at least one MBSE modeling language (SysML, UAFML, LML) and associated tools (Cameo, Sparx, Rhapsody, GENESYS). Experience with all aspects of space systems engineering and familiarity with architecture frameworks such as DoDAF, UAF, TOGAF. Knowledge of core space system segments (space, ground, transport, launch) at enterprise, system, and subsystem levels. Strong communication of complex concepts to customers and colleagues. Self‑starter who can lead technical work and spearhead new efforts. Problem‑solving, analytical, and innovative mindset. Ability to obtain TS/SCI security clearance; U.S. citizenship required. How You Can Stand Out M.S. or Ph.D. in a relevant field (aerospace, systems, electrical, mechanical, computer science, or related). Experience developing ontology or semantic data models. Knowledge of graph theory, graph databases, analysis and visualization tools. Knowledge of digital engineering concepts and experience developing digital engineering strategies and execution plans. Familiarity with digital thread tools such as Syndeia or eCube. Teaching experience in technical subjects. Relevant INCOSE CSEP/ESEP or OMG SysML/UAFML certification.
