Network Perimeter Defense Engineer

As a Network Perimeter Defense Engineer, the chosen candidate shall manage, maintain, configure, deploy, evaluate, and audit network security infrastructure perimeter devices on the Secure Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (SRDT&E) to include but not limited to: firewalls, Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPSs), and Virtual Private Network (VPN) devices and provide recommendations to optimize network performance. The chosen candidate shall securely segment the network and implement firewall rules between VLANs and physical sites, as well as apply all applicable STIGs, IAVM directives, and CTO instructions as required, and maintain relevant security documentation. This Engineer shall integrate Next Generation Firewall (NGFW) capabilities to include but not limited to: threat prevention and advanced DNS security. This position is on-site in San Diego, CA. Responsibilities Coordinate with technical personnel internal and external to NIWC Pacific to ensure network security infrastructure perimeter devices and enterprise services are properly configured to support business requirements. Support infrastructure system log aggregation efforts using Splunk, Elastic or comparable tools and perform analysis on this data to support troubleshooting. Support VPN customers by enabling/troubleshooting client connectivity. Provide analysis, review, and validation of customer-submitted port exception architecture requests. Understand the methods and requirements for connections into cloud-hosted environments such as AWS or Microsoft Azure. Research, test, evaluate, implement, and maintain Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) technologies and oversee the migration from traditional external access and port exception rules to a ZTNA architecture. Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Active DoD secret clearance At least 5 years of Network experience with Palo Alto Network Devices Security+ CE Certification Position Desired Cisco CCNA Certification or Palo Alto Certification Salary $125,000- $135,000. Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level.
