Safety Engineer

The Safety Engineer supports Anchor Construction's safety program by integrating engineering principles into field safety practices, hazard analysis, and risk mitigation for underground wet and dry utility construction projects. This role works closely with project teams, field leadership, and the Safety Director to proactively identify risks, implement controls, and ensure compliance with OSHA, state regulations, and company safety standards. What You Will Be Doing:
• Conduct safety audits and engineering-based risk assessments for trenching, excavation, and utility work
• Analyze processes and site conditions to identify hazards and recommend engineered controls
• Perform at least 15 safety inspections weekly and document in HCSS
• Evaluate trench protection, shoring, and soil conditions for OSHA compliance
• Inspect tools, equipment, rigging, and PPE
• Develop site-specific safety plans and hazard analyses (JHAs/AHAs)
• Support safety controls for confined space entry and traffic control
• Investigate incidents and perform root cause analysis
• Track safety trends and recommend improvements
• Assist with safety training programs
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and company policies
• Collaborating with supervisors on corrective actions
• Report serious hazards immediately

• Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred
• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations (especially excavation/trenching)
• OSHA 30 required; OSHA 510 required; OSHA 500 or CHST/ASP/CSP preferred
• Experience in underground utility or heavy civil construction preferred
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• Bilingual Spanish preferred
• Valid driver's license with acceptable record
• Ability to work overtime/weekends as needed
• Must pass annual drug testing Physical Demands: Heavy Heavy physical activity required, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working on uneven terrain and active excavation sites. Work Environment Frequent exposure to outdoor construction environments, including trenching operations, weather extremes, dust, noise, and confined spaces. Grounded in Excellence
