SENIOR INSPECTOR

Purpose of the Division The purpose of the Infrastructure Division is to manage the projects through the life cycle (planning, design, construction, commissioning, assessment of condition, modifying, replacing and decommissioning/disposal, close-out) of physical and infrastructure Houston Airport System (HAS) assets consistent with environmental regulations and best management practices. The Division manages the HAS portfolio of assets and resources with a focused goal to improve project delivery to all stakeholders. Its mission is to maintain and extend the effective life cycle of HAS's physical assets and replace them when they are no longer financially feasible or no longer support required airport mission requirements. Purpose of the Position The Senior Inspector of Infrastructure Project Controls role focuses on the oversight, execution, and delivery of Capital Improvement Program (CIP) airport projects, ensuring airfield and terminal infrastructure is delivered in accordance with regulatory, safety, and aviation standards. This position reports to the Infrastructure Division, Project Controls business unit. Work Days & Hours Varied (Shift work including rotation, weekends, and holidays). Subject to change. Responsibilities Investigate inquiries concerning code interpretations and technical problems from contractors, technical professionals and the general public. Prepare and review reports, forms and records. Assist the general public with preparing various forms. Supervise direct reports. Schedule, prepare, and review work assignments. Provide code interpretation to enhance technical quality. Manage direct reports’ timecards within the MyCOH Timekeeping system. Assist with training of assigned personnel. Conduct various inspections. Working Conditions The position routinely requires lifting moderately heavy items, such as record boxes (up to 40 pounds), and/or long periods of walking on rough surfaces. It involves exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions, office chemicals, and extensive use of a video display terminal. The position requires the ability to make simple gross‑motor responses within large tolerances. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s degree in a field closely related to the area of inspection, or a high school diploma/GED with an 18‑month technical specialty certification/licensing program. Experience Four years of journeyman or skilled experience in the area of inspection. For electrical, structural, HVAC, and boiler work, experience must be journeyman level obtained after completion of an apprenticeship program. License Requirements May require a valid Texas driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston’s driving policy. Preferred Qualifications Experience in large facility projects such as airfields, terminal buildings, hangars, roadways, and commercial buildings. Ability to recognize code and regulation deficiencies related to airfields, terminal buildings, hangars, and roadways. Ability to conduct inspections related to airside, landside, and terminal/building projects and properly document any system deficiencies. Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants who possess the necessary qualifications for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position. Selection/Skills Tests Required The selection process may involve application review and/or interview. The Department may administer a skills assessment test. Safety Impact Position Yes. This position is subject to random drug testing, and if promotional, a candidate must pass an assignment drug test. Pay Grade Pay Grade 22. Salary Information Factors used in determining the salary include the candidate’s qualifications and the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
