It's an opportunity to do your life's best work.(sm)The Senior Director, Health System Performance Improvement will lead the development, implementation, and long-term management of Optum’s Inpatient Care Transformation solution for a strategic client partnership with SSM Health. The Senior Director is responsible for leading a team of Optum professionals in both remote and onsite client work and serving as the coordination point across all functions of the transformation program including analytics, improvement initiatives, project management, change management, physician alignment, results measurement, executive reporting, and performance sustainability. The Senior Director will partner closely with SSM Health executive clinical and operational leadership to ensure the partnership results are achieved and sustained.The role of the inpatient care transformation team is to design, implement and sustain a comprehensive system-wide improvement plan targeting clinical, operational, and financial efficiency opportunities within inpatient care delivery. The priority areas of focus include inpatient care management and disease-specific care standards deployed throughout the acute care ministries. The transformation team will align Optum care transformation solutions with SSM Health needs and opportunities, continuously driving measureable results in a highly complex environment. Successful performance will be achieved through establishing a consistent, high quality care delivery model that aligns physicians, clinicians, and other key stakeholders, leveraging SSM Health and Optum clinical systems to achieve industry leading outcomes.If you are located in Tennessee or Illinois, you will have the flexibility to telecommute* as you take on some tough challenges. Primary Responsibilities:Partners with client and Optum executives and physician leaders to guide the overall clinical transformation effort, including establishing strategic priorities and goals, measuring results, identifying and removing barriers to success, and monitoring sustainability to ensure consistent performanceLeads the multi-disciplinary Optum team in the overall work of transforming inpatient care management performance and the design and implementation of inpatient care standardsCreates a trusted partner relationship with client executives and is seen as a partner in the successful design and implementation of the transformation programLeads and actively participates in all aspects of the transformation program, including but not limited to qualitative and quantitative assessment, plan development, implementation activities, and ongoing tracking of results and sustainmentSupervises and accountable for clinical transformation staff from business units throughout Optum involved in the implementation of the clinical transformation program at the client siteDevelops and delivers clear and concise updates to senior leadership at the client site and within OptumMonitors progress toward savings results, key milestones and service level agreements, and provides regular updates and escalates (as appropriate) to internal and external key stakeholdersMonitors program budget and return on investment progress to ensure meeting contractual agreementServes as the primary day to day contact for the client, including reviewing the work of the consultants and analysts and serving as the coordination point for the functional, products and transformation teamsPresents to large groups well and has the ability to adjust message to audience (CEO, CMO, CFO and other system clinical leaders)Participates as a member of various Optum teams to create innovative solutions associated with the strategic development of client programsYou’ll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:Undergraduate degree or 10 years care transformation equivalent experience 7+ years of clinical variation reduction in a hospital setting History of driving initiatives and achieving performance goals across complex organizationsProven track record of building and influencing relationships with external and internal executives and stakeholders, as well as leading, influencing and managing a large matrix workforceAble to travel routinely to hospitals for meetings with key stakeholders as well as periodically to Optum corporate officesPreferred Qualifications:Master of Business Administration; Master of Health Administration Experience in hospital operations or care management and/or leading complex clinical transformation consulting engagements resulting in significant recurring financial benefitExperience developing clinical transformation methodologies and designing innovative solutions in a complex and rapidly changing environment, including achievement of financial savingsManagement Consulting Demonstrated self-starter with strong planning organization, analytical and problem-solving skillsSolid presentation, written and verbal communication skills, including well-developed interpersonal skillsCareers with Optum.
