Security schedules do not always go according to plan. Officers call off, clients need extra coverage, and open shifts need to be filled quickly.

GCI Security is hiring Unarmed Flex Security Officers to help us cover those gaps throughout the St. Louis area.

This is not a position where you will report to the same site on the same schedule every week. Flex Officers are part of our coverage team. You may fill in for a full-time officer who is off, cover an open position while we hire or train someone, assist with temporary coverage needs, or be assigned wherever your availability is needed most.

Because of that, we pay Flex Officers $20.00/hour .

Flex Officers should expect approximately 2-4 shift assignments per week, or 16-32 hours , based on available coverage needs. You must have availability for both 2nd and 3rd shifts and weekend coverage to qualify for this position.

How the Flex Officer Role Works

• $20.00/hour
• Approximately 2-4 assignments per week
• Approximately 16-32 hours per week
• Must be available for 2nd and 3rd shift assignments
• Must be available for weekend coverage
• Assignments may vary from week to week.
• You may work at multiple GCI client locations.
• You may be called to fill call-offs, vacancies, scheduled absences, temporary openings, or other coverage needs.
• This position is intended for officers who can adapt to different sites, post orders, and assignments.

Key Responsibilities

• Fill open security assignments when regular officers are unavailable or additional coverage is needed.
• Report to different GCI client locations based on weekly staffing needs.
• Learn and follow the post orders and procedures for each assigned location.
• Maintain a professional and visible security presence throughout your assigned shift.
• Conduct scheduled foot and/or vehicle patrols.
• Monitor entrances, parking areas, buildings, grounds, and other assigned areas.
• Watch for suspicious activity, unauthorized access, safety concerns, property damage, and unusual conditions.
• Remain alert during slower evening and overnight periods.
• Respond calmly and professionally to incidents, alarms, disturbances, and client concerns.
• Write accurate incident reports and daily activity reports.
• Use GCI's reporting systems to document patrols and security activity.
• Communicate with dispatch and supervisors throughout the shift as required.
• Interact professionally with residents, employees, customers, visitors, and law enforcement.
• Enforce site policies respectfully and consistently.
• Arrive on time, in proper uniform, and prepared for every accepted assignment.
• Follow post orders and complete all assigned duties before the end of your shift.

What You Need to Succeed

Flex Officers need to be especially dependable, adaptable, and comfortable walking into different environments and quickly learning what is expected.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current and valid St. Louis County security license required.
• Prior professional security experience required.
• Must be available for both 2nd and 3rd shift assignments.
• Must be available for weekend coverage.
• Must be willing and able to work at different GCI client locations throughout the St. Louis area.
• Must be comfortable with a schedule and work location that may vary from week to week.
• Reliable transportation to and from assigned job sites.
• Ability to pass required criminal background and drug screening.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Ability to remain awake, alert, and attentive throughout evening or overnight shifts.
• Ability to communicate clearly in person and in writing.
• Ability to work responsibly with limited direct supervision.
• Ability to quickly learn and follow different site-specific post orders.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform patrol duties associated with the assigned post.

Please note: Applicants must already possess the required St. Louis County security license. GCI does not pay initial licensing costs for newly hired officers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous evening or overnight security experience.
• Experience working at multiple security sites or in a flex, rover, or relief officer position.
• Experience working security at residential, retail, commercial, office, or industrial properties.
• Broad availability beyond the minimum 2nd, 3rd, and weekend requirements.
• Military experience.
• Customer service experience.
• Strong written reporting skills.
• Experience working independently.
• A strong record of attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to adjust quickly to different clients, environments, and expectations.
• Interest in future full-time, leadership, or operations opportunities.
