Community Risk Reduction Specialist

Job Location: Station 38 - Prospect, KY 40059 Position Type: Full Time Overview The Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Specialist1 provides programming intended to reduce the risks identified in the AMFEMS community risk assessment. The CRR Specialist1 maintains an open dialogue with colleagues in the Community Risk Division, AMFEMS emergency response personnel, external CRR partners, and the general public. This is a part-time, as needed position. Minimum Education and Experience High School diploma or G.E.D. 2-3 years of work experience Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license prior to operating any vehicle owned by the Anchorage Middletown Fire and EMS. The license must be a full operator’s license; instructional or temporary learning permits do not meet this requirement. Ability to communicate effectively with the target demographics for risk reduction through public speaking, presenting prepared lesson plans, and/or one‑on‑one interactions. Ability to work with limited supervision. Ability to work weekends and evenings as required. Special Qualifications From Chapter 4 of NFPA 1031 Standard on Fire and Life Safety Educator, Public Information Officer, Youth Firesetter Intervention Specialist, and Youth Firesetter Program Manager Professional Qualifications: Use verbal and written communication skills, manage time, multitask. Utilize forms, gather and assemble information. Maintain records, compile information. Schedule events without conflict, schedule time for pre‑activity requirements. Convey information. Locate applicable instructional materials. Presentation skills and methods. Desirable Qualifications Certified Public Fire and Life Safety Educator 1 (IFSAC or ProBoard). Three (3) years of full‑time or part‑time public speaking experience. Three (3) years as a certified teacher with experience in grades K‑6. Three (3) years of fire service, EMS, or community risk reduction experience. Performance Duties Abide by the Administrative Policies and Standard Operating Procedures of the District. Present and/or coordinate programs relating to fire prevention, life safety and injury prevention, natural disasters, etc. for various groups and organizations such as homeowner groups, apartment owners and tenants, public and private schools, civic organizations, business and industry. Participate in public events attended by AMFEMS when requested. Work with CRR division and AMFEMS colleagues to accomplish strategic initiatives and goals. Tools and Resources Used District owned vehicle Laptop or tablet Enterprise record management system (RMS) software Office software and applications Portable radio Contemporary audio/visual presentation equipment Prepared lesson plans or programs Charts, diagrams, visual aids, etc. Physical Demands Regularly required to sit; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone. Use hands and fingers to key, handle, and feel computers and standard business equipment; and reach with hands and arms. Frequently required to stand and walk. May occasionally be required to carry materials or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment Work in an office, schoolroom, or meeting room; noise level is generally quiet. Travel from site to site to conduct public education programs or attend meetings. Potential exposure to noise, smoke, toxic materials, vibrations, odors, or dust. May occasionally work in inclement weather conditions. All hazardous duty employees must successfully maintain an annual fit‑for‑duty status and the Kentucky Fire Commission required annual training.
