Kwame Building Group (KBG) is seeking a qualified Mechanical Engineer to support the design and engineering of a major airport terminal construction project . This position will play an important role in ensuring mechanical systems are properly designed, coordinated, reviewed, and implemented in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, industry standards, and KBG’s commitment to quality and excellence.
The ideal candidate will be a mid-level engineering professional with experience supporting complex commercial, institutional, transportation, or aviation facilities. The Mechanical Engineer will work collaboratively with KBG project leadership, architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, airport representatives, and other stakeholders throughout the design and construction process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the design and engineering of mechanical systems for airport terminal facilities, including HVAC, ventilation, plumbing, hydronic systems, controls, and related building systems .
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment schedules, and other technical documentation for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, fire protection, civil, and other engineering disciplines.
- Participate in design coordination meetings and provide technical recommendations regarding mechanical systems.
- Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, product data, Requests for Information (RFIs), and proposed design changes.
- Assist in identifying and resolving mechanical design conflicts, constructability concerns, and field coordination issues.
- Perform site visits and field observations to verify mechanical installations are consistent with approved plans, specifications, and project standards.
- Support equipment selection and evaluation for HVAC and other mechanical systems.
- Assist with mechanical system calculations, equipment sizing, load analysis, and energy-efficiency evaluations.
- Coordinate mechanical requirements with airport operations and project stakeholders to minimize impacts to active airport facilities.
- Support testing, balancing, startup, commissioning, inspections, punch-list activities, and turnover of mechanical systems.
- Assist with reviewing change orders and evaluating changes to the mechanical scope of work.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and assist with technical reports, project updates, and engineering correspondence.
- Monitor compliance with applicable building, mechanical, and energy codes, airport requirements, and industry standards.
- Promote quality, safety, constructability, sustainability, and maintainability throughout the design and construction process.
- Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment while successfully managing multiple projects, assignments, priorities, and deadlines.
- Perform other engineering and project-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional mechanical engineering experience , preferably involving large-scale or complex building projects.
- Experience with airport terminals, aviation facilities, transportation facilities, large commercial buildings, or similar complex construction projects is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, mechanical controls, and building mechanical systems.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs.
- Working knowledge of applicable mechanical, building, energy, and life-safety codes.
- Ability to interpret construction documents and identify design, constructability, and coordination issues.
- Demonstrated creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, assignments, and competing priorities successfully.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary design and construction teams.
- Strong organizational, analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety, ethical conduct, and professional accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is a plus.
- Previous experience working on an airport terminal or aviation construction project .
- Experience working within an active airport environment.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE standards, International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Building Code (IBC), NFPA standards , and applicable local codes.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM coordination, Bluebeam , and other engineering or construction management software.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices, energy-efficient mechanical systems, and LEED requirements is a plus.
- Experience supporting mechanical system commissioning and project closeout.

Work Environment
This position will support an active airport terminal construction project and may require a combination of office-based engineering work, design coordination meetings, client meetings, and field/site visits.
The Mechanical Engineer must be comfortable working in an active construction and airport environment and coordinating with multiple project stakeholders. The position may require compliance with airport security, badging, safety, and site-access requirements.
