Human Resources Manager

Job Summary Leads the strategic and functional operations of the HR department, aligning staff management with organizational goals. Provides human resources expertise to the business and advises on all matters related to human resources, benefits and safety related issues. Responsible for understanding, interpreting, and ensuring compliance with all relevant employment, payroll, safety and benefits legislative requirements. Key Responsivities & Duties Strategic Planning: Collaborates with senior leadership to develop HR strategies that support company growth, staffing, and retention goals. Talent Management: Oversees the full recruitment lifecycle, onboarding, and performance management processes. Employee Relations: Acts as a liaison to manage grievances, investigations, and employee engagement initiatives to improve morale. Compliance & Policy: Ensures company adherence to local, state, and federal labor regulations; develops and updates company policies. Compensation & Benefits: Manages payroll processes, benefits administration, and compensation structures to ensure competitiveness. Leadership: Ability to make independent decisions while carefully considering legal ramifications, regulatory requirements, and the company’s strategic objectives. Demonstrates proactive leadership, taking initiative without needing constant direct supervision. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources management or a related field Previous supervisory and project management experience a must Minimum of 10+ years HR Management and Generalist experience within a manufacturing facility; food manufacturing highly desirable SHRM and OSHA certifications highly desirable, including OSHA document requests and fines Strong knowledge of California HR laws, regulations, and best practices Experience with Rippling systems Excellent written and oral communication, including presentation skills and translation (English/Spanish) Experience Understand applicable labor laws, regulations, and contractual language and communicate them to employees and managers Facilitate legal and regulatory compliance to internal and external reporting entities, including unemployment claims, OSHA inspections and citations, and investigations Current knowledge of best practice HR processes and tools in performance management, compensation, recruiting, talent development and succession Business working knowledge: demonstrates understanding of the financials and metrics of the business, balancing employee and business needs Provide guidance and support on performance management concerns through fair and consistent application of disciplinary procedures and legal requirements Manage leave of absence policies through an HRIS system (ADA, FMLA/CFRA, pregnancy leave, etc.) Manage bi‑weekly payroll and system programming Manage company-wide employee benefits, insurance policies, renewals; time‑off policies, medical benefits, 401(k) administration using an HRIS system Manage temporary labor workforce Full‑cycle recruitment for hourly and salaried positions, including job postings, applicant screening, interviews, and offer letters Develop onboarding program for new employees Prepare internal HR documents (employment, promotions, transfers, termination forms) Manage Workers’ Compensation claims Represent and manage labor, safety and OSHA related matters Oversee all HR functions of three company sites Skills and Abilities Integrity, leadership, and neutrality Time management, flexibility, and sense of urgency Strong multi‑tasking ability Collaboration across departments Solution oriented and hands‑on attitude Strong judgment, balancing interests Training/mentoring experience desirable Proactive anticipation of needs Pay Scale The pay range for this position is $95,000 - $115,000 annually; base pay offered may vary depending on location and experience. Work Environment Onsite: The employee performs assigned responsibilities inside a company office‑based environment. Reports to General Manager and General Counsel Direct reports The role has two direct reports: HR/Payroll Supervisor and Safety Supervisor.
