Job Duties Davey is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Horticulture and Arboriculture Technical Advisor . This leadership position is within the Davey Institute, which is responsible for technical services, research and development, environmental programs, and education and training for our Minneapolis operations. Davey Technical Advisors and Scientists guide field service teams in diagnosing biotic and abiotic pest problems and prescribing the best products, application procedures, and cultural practices to be used at the customer site. Our experts are specialists in fields such as entomology, horticulture, urban forestry, agronomy, plant pathology, and turf and landscape care. They train our technicians and serve as resources to address the specific needs of our customers. Field teams use internet access to our multimedia reference materials, including detailed photos, videos, and databases to properly diagnose a customer’s lawn, landscape or tree related issues. Qualifications MS or PhD in horticulture or related plant science discipline Strong communication skills, both oral and written: Ability to teach co-workers and colleagues in person and via written and remote technologies Comfort with public and client-directed presentations Ability to work with multiple project leaders in a team-based work environment Computer literate and able to assist with preparation of research reports and Davey literature Ability and willingness to travel on a national scale up to 50% time Ability to operate a vehicle; read and speak clearly and lift up to 50 lbs Additional Information Assist Davey Service Lines in strategic, growth-oriented projects and program level initiatives Provide technical support to field personnel via telephone and consultation travel to various Davey locations Develop and assist with research projects conducted by the Davey Institute. These may include evaluating various products or services intended for Davey operations or external cooperators. Work is often required which may involve lifting, digging, chemical applications, and rating treatment responses in indoor and outdoor environments Assist with and develop formal training programs for Service Line personnel Assist District, Project and Account Managers in preparing bids and meeting with prospects and key clients.
