Volunteer Coordinator
Cancer Support Community
Objective: Support the successful recruitment, onboarding, coordination, and engagement of CSC DC volunteers to ensure high-quality program delivery and a positive volunteer experience for individuals supporting those impacted by cancer.
Responsibilities: Work closely with CSC DC staff to support volunteer recruitment, screening, onboarding, and placement across programs and events. Assist with maintaining volunteer schedules and coordinating coverage for ongoing programs, workshops, and special events. Serve as a point of contact for volunteers by providing timely communication, support, and guidance. Collaborate with staff to track volunteer participation, maintain accurate records, and support the organization of volunteer data. Assist in identifying volunteer needs across programs and help match volunteers based on skills and interests. Support volunteer recognition efforts and contribute to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive volunteer environment. Responsibilities may be carried out virtually or in person, unless otherwise specified.
Qualifications: Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Experience in volunteer coordination, program support, or community engagement is preferred. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds with empathy and professionalism. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. No individual medical, therapeutic, or spiritual advice is given, and solicitation is not permitted. Any participant interested in this position must be at least one year past being an active program participant.
Training/Supervision: Volunteers will be briefed in the CSC DC philosophy and may attend volunteer supervision sessions. Attendance at a Volunteer Orientation is required.
Evaluation: Ongoing feedback will be provided by CSC DC staff, and input from volunteers and program participants may be used to inform performance and program improvements.
Commitment: Volunteer Coordinators are asked to commit to a consistent schedule, to be determined in collaboration with CSC DC staff, based on organizational needs. Coordinators agree to maintain strict confidentiality and protect all personal information shared within the scope of their role. Additionally, any materials, systems, or processes developed specifically for CSC or CSC DC in connection with this role shall be considered CSC or CSC DC intellectual property, unless otherwise agreed to in writing.
