Orthoptist

Position Purpose Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients with disorders impacting eye movement and positioning. Administers therapy, prepares reports, and confers with physicians regarding patients’ needs and progress. Nature and Scope Under the direction of an Ophthalmologist, diagnoses and treats ocular motility or eye muscular disorders, such as amblyopia, diplopia, or strabismus. Assesses patients and determines course of treatment. Provides non-surgical treatment through the use of eye patches or exercises and assists the Ophthalmologist in planning and performing more invasive corrections. Tracks patient treatment and reports on progress. Performs work under minimal supervision. Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of subject matter. Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. May act as a lead or first-level supervisor. Provides patient care. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree and certification as an Orthoptist. Must have working‑level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Experience: 2 years preferred. License(s): None required. Certification(s): Orthoptist Certification. Computer / Typing: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements, access online forms and policies, and complete online benefits enrollment.
