Vice President Human Resources

Location: Bergen County, NJ (5 days in office) Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and strategic VP of Human Resources to lead all human resources functions for a multi-location organization. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day HR operations while partnering closely with executive leadership to develop and implement people strategies that support organizational goals, employee engagement, workforce planning, compliance, and operational excellence. The VP of Human Resources will serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and provide leadership across recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, labor relations, policy development, compensation and benefits, performance management, and organizational culture initiatives. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, hands-on HR leader with strong experience managing complex employee populations and driving organizational effectiveness. Key Responsibilities Human Resources Leadership & Strategy Lead and manage all Human Resources functions, programs, and initiatives across the organization. Partner with executive leadership to develop HR strategies that align with organizational objectives. Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and best practices. Promote a positive, collaborative, and inclusive workplace culture across all departments and locations. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning Oversee all recruitment and retention initiatives. Develop strategic workforce planning and talent acquisition programs to attract top talent. Partner with department leaders to identify staffing needs and create customized recruiting strategies. Drive employee retention programs and talent development initiatives. Employee Relations & Labor Relations Manage employee relations matters, including investigations, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, grievances, and workplace concerns. Conduct and oversee internal investigations and ensure proper documentation and compliance with established procedures. Provide guidance to managers and employees on employee relations and workplace issues. Experience with Unions support labor relations activities and collective bargaining agreements where applicable. Benefits & Compensation Administration Oversee employee benefits administration, retirement programs, and related employee support services. Provide guidance and counseling related to retirement planning and benefits programs. Partner with external vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure effective administration of all benefit offerings. Support compensation planning and market-based compensation initiatives. Compliance & Risk Management Work closely with legal counsel and leadership to ensure compliance with employment laws, policies, and regulatory requirements. Manage workers' compensation, disability, unemployment, and leave administration programs. Support workplace safety initiatives and risk management efforts. Maintain accurate personnel records and HR documentation. Organizational Development & Communication Oversee the development, maintenance, and review of job descriptions for all positions. Lead employee communication initiatives, including policy updates, announcements, and organizational communications. Support performance management, training, leadership development, and succession planning efforts. Manage special projects and strategic HR initiatives as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field. Minimum of 10 years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience. Extensive experience in employee relations, labor relations, talent acquisition, compensation and benefits administration, compliance, and organizational development. Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and workforce management strategies. Proven ability to partner effectively with executive leadership and influence decision-making. Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Human Resources experience within a public sector, highly regulated, unionized, or complex organizational environment. Experience supporting both union and non-union employee populations. Demonstrated success leading organizational change, workforce planning, and employee engagement initiatives. Certifications PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
