STARTING DATE : 2026/27 School Year

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

SALARY : $55,000-$65,000


QUALIFICATIONS:

1) Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate required, administrative certificate preferred


2) Highly qualified status to meet state and federal requirements.

3) Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Job Description

The Student Support Specialist is responsible for facilitating the culture of the school, including the development of student character and ensuring a positive and structured environment that creates the conditions for learning. This position requires an organized and consistent educator with a concrete vision of excellence, adult leadership experience, the ability to build outstanding relationships with stakeholders, and a talent for inspiring children to high expectations. This position will respond to issues within the building and district, including student behavior, teacher support and if needed, reporting, communication, and documentation of positive cases.


Responsibilities of the Student Support Specialist will include, but are not limited to:

Student Culture

  • Partner with the principal to develop and implement a positive, achievement-focused vision and strategic plan for school culture.
  • Lead the coordination and implementation of a school-wide behavior management system that incorporates meaningful incentives, logical consequences, and restorative practices.
  • Collect, monitor, and analyze student behavior and discipline data to identify trends, inform decision-making, and proactively address student needs.
  • Respond to student behavioral concerns by implementing appropriate interventions and consequences aligned with school policies and restorative approaches.
  • Coordinate and support multi-tiered systems of behavioral support through collaboration with grade-level teams, counselors, and support staff.
  • Facilitate restorative conversations and practices that help students resolve conflicts, repair relationships, and build a positive school community.
  • Support students in developing self-regulation, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and responsible decision-making skills.
Community Engagement
  • Plan and coordinate student recognition programs, celebrations, and culture-building activities that promote a positive school climate.
  • Ensure the school's physical environment reflects and reinforces the school's culture, values, and commitment to student success.
  • Conduct regular school culture walkthroughs to monitor implementation of effective practices and identify opportunities for growth.
  • Facilitate professional learning opportunities focused on classroom management, school culture, and student engagement.
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, counselors, families, and community partners to support students' behavioral and social-emotional development.
  • Serve as an active member of the Building Leadership Team, contributing to school-wide planning and continuous improvement efforts.
Student Supervision
  • Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, hallway transitions, and other unstructured times to ensure a safe, orderly, and supportive environment.
  • Coordinate supervision schedules and assignments for support staff throughout the school day to ensure adequate coverage and consistency.
Communication
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with families and staff regarding student behavior, interventions, and support strategies.
  • Provide regular updates to the principal and families regarding school-wide trends, behavioral concerns, and culture-related initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of behavioral incidents, interventions, and student support plans in accordance with district policies and procedures.
