Direct Support Professional (DSP) Individual Residential Alternative (IRA)Position: Direct Support Professional (DSP) Individual Residential Alternative (IRA)Reports to: Program DirectorWork Location: 1825 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11233Shifts: FULL TIME Monday - Friday 3:00pm - 11:pm - Travel requiredSalary Range: $17.00/hour - $18.00/hourProgram Summary: IRAs provides room, board and personalized service options to individuals living with disabilities. Staff is on-site 24 hours, 7 days a week residential setting to offer support by offering life skills training, community integration activities, and medical monitoring.Position Summary: The responsibility of the Direct Support Professional is to foster and engage individuals through a person centered approach. To empower independence through proactive training and practical experiences while involved in integrated activities in the community. Staff is assigned to 4 individuals. Complete all mandatory residential habilitation documentation within specified time frames, including but not limited to:Responsibilities:Review daily log book and input all activities throughout shift into log bookProvide supervision to assigned individualsTeach and assist in the maintenance, upkeep and housekeeping and cleanliness of the residenceAccompany clients to medical appointmentsFollow health care treatment orders and administer medicationTeach and reinforce fire and safety proceduresUtilize agency vehicle to transport individuals for community outingsProvide daily ADL training such as cooking, shopping, cleaning etc.Ensure all program goals are completed as writtenProvide and supervise daily recreational activities as neededMaintain contact with families as necessaryOther tasks as assignedQualifications Required:High School diploma or equivalent required; Associates or bachelors preferred in Human services, psychology or SociologyAt least one years' experience working with individuals in a residential settingMust attain AMAP certification within 3 months of hireMust be CPR/First Aid certified or be willing to become certified within 3 months of hireAt least 1 year of residential experience is requiredValid Clean Driver License a plusPrevious experience or knowledge in the I/DD field is a plusWork or life experience with intellectual/developmental disabilities is a plusMust have excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills including ability to problem-solveMust respond well to supervision and be a team playerMust be computer literateExcellent judgment and sensitivity to the needs of the individualWilling to take initiativeBi-Lingual Spanish preferredBCS is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
