Product Counsel

• Advise product, engineering, data, and marketing stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle, from initial development through launch
• Review marketing strategies and assets
• Provide practical legal advice on regulatory compliance, consumer protection, intellectual property, artificial intelligence, marketing, and privacy
• Advise on core platform infrastructure, AI systems, platform and API design, integrations, and AI actions on customers' behalf
• Counsel product, engineering, and data science teams across the machine learning model lifecycle
• Advise on identity, authentication, authorization, account security, consent, delegated access, and access-control design
• Translate legal requirements into technical requirements and write guidance for engineers
• Review design documents, data models, and architecture proposals
• Monitor U.S. and international laws and regulations relating to the Toast platform and global AI legal developments
• Develop scalable processes including playbooks, intake triage, and decision trees
• Collaborate across privacy, security, compliance, and product counsel teams

Requirements

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school
• Membership in good standing in at least one state bar
• 5+ years of legal experience covering regulatory compliance, privacy, intellectual property, and consumer protection
• In-house legal department experience advising product, engineering, and marketing teams on new products, enhancements, and feature requests
• Technical fluency with architecture and design documentation, data flows, schemas, APIs, and model behavior
• Experience with AI or machine learning issues, including training data rights, model governance, or emerging AI regulation
• Experience with data-use and data-rights questions, including aggregation, de-identification, and contractual commitments
• Experience working with fast-paced technology or software companies
• Exceptional communication skills
