State Regulatory Attorney (Ohio)
Our client, a large investor-owned electric utility serving customers across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions, is seeking up to two State Regulatory Attorneys to join its legal department. This position offers the opportunity to work directly with business leaders, experienced utility attorneys, and outside counsel on a wide variety of regulatory matters before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and related appellate proceedings.

What You'll Do:
- Handle legal and regulatory matters before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and appellate courts.
• Assist with and manage complex regulatory proceedings, including rate cases, investigations, complaint proceedings, and rulemaking matters.
• Draft and review legal pleadings, motions, briefs, testimony, contracts, and other business documents.
• Provide legal counsel and strategic guidance to business units regarding regulatory requirements, compliance issues, and emerging legal developments.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and outside counsel on regulatory and litigation matters.
• Represent the company in mediation proceedings, customer disputes, and other contested matters.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting electric utilities and advise clients accordingly.
• Manage multiple ongoing matters while meeting strict regulatory and litigation deadlines.
What You'll Need:
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
• 1–5 years of relevant in-house or law firm legal experience with utility regulation.
• Admission to the Ohio Bar and in good standing.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to build effective working relationships with professionals at all levels of an organization.
• Strong initiative, work ethic, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under deadlines.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn new and complex subject matters.
• Prior experience with state public utility regulation, administrative law, or appearances before utility commissions is preferred.
• Electric utility industry experience is helpful but not required.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
