Jira Service Management Engineer

JIRA Developer Remote We are seeking an experienced JIRA Developer to design, develop, configure, and maintain JIRA-based solutions in support of one of our public sector clients. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with JIRA configuration and customization, workflow automation, integrations, and the Atlassian ecosystem. The JIRA Developer will work closely with project management, agency stakeholders, and other technology teams to understand requirements and translate them into scalable, user-friendly JIRA solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, customize, and maintain JIRA projects, workflows, screens, fields, issue types, permissions, notifications, and schemes.
  • Develop and maintain JIRA automation rules to improve team productivity and streamline business processes.
  • Build and support integrations between JIRA and other enterprise applications using REST APIs, webhooks, and other integration technologies.
  • Develop custom solutions, scripts, and extensions to enhance JIRA functionality where out-of-the-box capabilities are insufficient.
  • Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into effective JIRA solutions.
  • Partner with development, QA, DevOps, product, and project management teams to understand their processes and improve workflow efficiency.
  • Manage JIRA workflows and configurations across development, test, and production environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve JIRA configuration, workflow, integration, performance, and user-access issues.
  • Establish and maintain JIRA configuration standards, governance, documentation, and best practices.
  • Support JIRA upgrades, migrations, releases, and platform maintenance activities.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, filters, and metrics to provide meaningful visibility into project and team performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to JIRA administrators and end users.
  • Maintain appropriate security, access controls, and permissions within the JIRA environment.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience developing, configuring, or administering JIRA.
  • Strong knowledge of JIRA workflows, issue types, screens, custom fields, schemes, permissions, notifications, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Experience with JIRA automation and workflow customization.
  • Experience developing or supporting integrations using REST APIs, webhooks, and JSON.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with scripting or programming languages such as JavaScript, Groovy, Python, or Java.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing custom JIRA integrations and applications.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with Git, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, or similar source-control platforms.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-scale JIRA environments and migrations.
