Job Description

The Upholsterer prepares and installs upholstery materials such as wood, foam, and fabric for production pads and related products. This role involves laying out and cutting materials, assembling padded components according to work orders, and ensuring each finished piece meets quality standards in a light industrial manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and install upholstery materials, including wood, foam, vinyl, and fabric, according to work orders and established procedures.
• Lay out and cut upholstery materials accurately, including operating a cutting machine to achieve precise dimensions.
• Stage materials for each job based on work order requirements to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion.
• Use an oven to prepare vinyl prior to stapling to achieve proper fit and finish.
• Staple vinyl to pads using a staple gun, ensuring secure attachment and neat appearance.
• Assemble pieces following established procedures, attach backing, and punch finished pads according to work orders.
• Place completed pads in the appropriate designated area and box pads as needed for storage or shipment.
• Create labels using a computer and label maker and apply them correctly to finished products or packaging.
• Inspect completed work for quality, verifying that all pieces meet company standards and specifications.
• Operate a vinyl picker and pallet jack safely to move materials and finished products within the facility.
• Use upholstery tools such as heat guns, razors, and staple removers as needed to complete and refine work.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow safety guidelines in a light industrial manufacturing environment.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of upholstery experience in a production or similar environment.
• Strong sewing experience in industrial sewing applications.
• Ability to use upholstery tools including staple guns, heat guns, razors, and staple removers safely and effectively.
• Proficiency in laying out and cutting upholstery materials accurately, including operating cutting equipment.
• Capability to prepare and install upholstery materials such as wood, foam, vinyl, and fabric according to specifications.
• Experience assembling padded components and attaching backing following established procedures and work orders.
• Basic computer skills to create and print labels using a label maker.
• Strong job longevity and reliability, demonstrating consistent work history and commitment.
• Attention to detail and ability to perform thorough quality checks on finished products.
• Ability to operate a pallet jack and other material handling equipment in a manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience in a light industrial or manufacturing setting.
• Comfort working with powered hand tools and production equipment.
• Ability to follow written work orders and standardized procedures accurately.
• Strong focus on safety and adherence to workplace guidelines.
• Good organizational skills for staging materials and managing multiple work orders.
• Ability to work effectively in a potentially loud environment and maintain concentration.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle materials and finished pads as required by the role.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of ANOKA, MN.

The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
