Visit the Employee Benefits page for more information… Position Summary & Responsibilities: Position Summary: This Electronic Technician Senior position is located in Topeka, at the Planning Shop, and is within the Bureau of Transportation Planning. This position exists to collect accurate traffic data, manage the installation and maintenance of the continuous and portable electronic data equipment and communications equipment, download and validate data, and assist with coordination with traffic control and utility companies. The Electronic Technician Senior will also assist with shop other duties such as inventory, restocking shop vehicle supplies and preparing traffic counter installation equipment. The incumbent must be able to conduct repairs/maintenance on traffic data collection sites throughout the state with little or no assistance. Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Performs on-site testing, maintenance and repair of all KDOT continuous electronic and electro-mechanical traffic counting and communications equipment at approximately 120 locations throughout the state. Installs permanent traffic counting equipment, detectors, and AC or solar power sources, erection of suitable equipment cases, installing telecommunication equipment, and installing and connecting recording equipment. Monitors automated data download process, manually downloading sites not auto-downloaded, and does preliminary quality and completeness checks. Cleans, repairs and services portable traffic counters and equipment used for other surveys including electronic weigh in motion equipment and electronic vehicle classification equipment. Constructs, modifies and evaluates devices for diagnosis and repair of existing equipment. View the full position description Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Three years of experience in electronic repair. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. Transcripts are required for education to be considered. Valid Driver’s License at time of appointment. Preferred Qualifications: Ability to work outdoors. Ability to perform maintenance on automatic data collection equipment. Work with little or no supervision.
