Library Media Specialist (Elementary)

Position Type: Elementary School Teaching / Library Media Specialist Date Posted: 7/15/2026 Location: Districtwide Date Available: 8/20/25 Job Summary The Library Media Specialist coordinates the school library‑media center and technology lab, ensuring that instructional and non‑instructional materials meet student and teacher needs across all grade levels. The role also provides instruction in information literacy and technology use, promotes a culture of reading, and collaborates with faculty to integrate library resources into the curriculum. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Proven experience managing school‑site collections, selecting and acquiring materials, and a history of teaching or related school experience. Credentials: Connecticut State Board of Education teaching certificate with the School Library Media Specialist – 062 endorsement. Additional Requirements: Valid motor vehicle operator’s license (may be required). Completion of all State CEU requirements for re‑certification. Skills: Strong information literacy instruction, technology integration, interpersonal communication, and leadership in curriculum development. Essential Functions Develops, implements, and evaluates a comprehensive library media program that supports school curriculum and student learning. Collaborates with classroom teachers, technology staff, and administrators to integrate library resources and technology into teaching and learning. Provides instruction in information literacy, research methods, and the use of technology tools to students, teachers, and the community. Manages library collections, circulations, and technology equipment, ensuring that materials meet current standards and student needs. Leads professional development and collaborative planning for curriculum integration and interdisciplinary instruction. Uses assessment data and feedback to improve program effectiveness and student outcomes. Supervises support staff and maintains a positive, inclusive learning environment in the library media center. Working Conditions Standard district classroom and library duties with occasional physically demanding tasks. Physical fitness and the ability to lift up to 20 lbs. are required.
