Senior Accountant

The City of Boise is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join the Department of Finance in a hybrid-eligible role with broad Citywide impact.

This role is ideal for an accomplished accounting professional ready to lead complex Federal and State grant accounting, financial reporting, compliance, audits, reconciliations, cost allocation, and process improvements. The Senior Accountant will help departments navigate Federal and State grant requirements, monitor grant activity, prepare accurate financial reports, support the Single Audit, and strengthen internal controls. This position will also contribute to GASB implementation and ERP system improvements while serving as a trusted resource to departments and leadership and promoting the transparent, compliant, and responsible stewardship of public funds.

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field
• Five years of progressively responsible accounting experience in a governmental or business setting
• Or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Additional Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training:

• Federal, state and local financial regulations relating to public agencies
• Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements
• Accounting and financial practices as it relates to public agencies
• Governmental accounting principles and regulatory compliance
• Advanced mathematical principles
• Computer usage including related software
• Microsoft Excel and ERP systems.

Ability to:

• Apply formal and analytical techniques to the examination and development of manual and automated accounting information systems
• Prepare and accurately analyze both basic and complex audit work papers
• Prepare detailed fiscal reports and statements
• Reconcile complex, high-volume accounts
• Analyze general ledgers and preparing journal entries
• Establish priorities and organize individual workload
• Supervise, train, and evaluate others
• Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
• Perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training:

• Master's degree in accounting, Finance, or closely related field
• CPA certification
• Six or more years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in government finance
