Roles and Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations according to physician orders and established protocols
• Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures, answering questions, and ensuring patient comfort
• Review patient history and clinical information to determine appropriate imaging protocols
• Position patients correctly and operate ultrasound equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images
• Perform a variety of general and specialty ultrasound examinations as required by the facility
• Evaluate images for technical quality and obtain additional views when necessary
• Assist physicians and radiologists during ultrasound-guided procedures when required
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR and PACS
• Follow established protocols for patient identification, examination verification, and image labeling
• Perform routine equipment checks and report technical issues or equipment malfunctions promptly
• Follow infection prevention, HIPAA, patient safety, and facility policies
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe ultrasound examination environment
• Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
• Provide compassionate and professional care to patients throughout the examination

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography or Ultrasound Technology program
• Minimum 1 year of recent Ultrasound Technologist experience
• ARDMS certification preferred or required by facility
• Current BLS Certification required
• Appropriate Iowa licensure or credentials, if applicable
• Strong knowledge of ultrasound anatomy, imaging techniques, and protocols
• Experience with PACS and electronic medical record systems
• Excellent patient-care, communication, and organizational skills
• Strong attention to detail and image-quality assessment abilities
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team
