Ascensus is the leading independent technology and service platform powering savings plans across America, providing products and expertise that help nearly 16 million people save for a better today and tomorrow.Section 1: Position SummaryThe Senior Fraud Investigator is a senior individual contributor responsible for leading complex or high-impact investigations, identifying emerging fraud patterns, and serving as a subject matter expert within the fraud function. This role is expected to operate with a high degree of independence and sound judgment while managing complex casework and contributing to broader fraud risk strategies. In addition to conducting investigations, the Senior Fraud Investigator helps strengthen the fraud program by identifying root causes, recommending control or process improvements, and partnering across the organization to improve fraud prevention and response.Section 2: Job Functions, Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead complex fraud investigations involving multiple accounts, transactions, channels, and/or subjectsIdentify and analyze emerging fraud trends, typologies, and risk indicatorsConduct root cause analysis of fraud events and identify opportunities to strengthen fraud controlsUse internal systems, reporting, and available data sources to investigate linked activity and suspicious patternsPrepare clear, concise, and comprehensive case documentation, investigative summaries, and escalation materialsSupport high-priority escalations and complex fraud events requiring timely containment and coordinationPartner with operations, compliance, legal, technology, and other stakeholders to support investigative outcomesHelp improve investigative procedures, documentation standards, and case management practicesProvide subject matter expertise and guidance to business partners and team members as neededIdentify opportunities for process improvement and stronger fraud mitigation practicesResponsible for protecting, securing, and proper handling of all confidential data held by Ascensus to ensure against unauthorized access, improper transmission, and/or unapproved disclosure of information that could result in harm to Ascensus or our clients.At Ascensus we are guided by our Core Values of People Matter, Quality First and Integrity Always. They inspire us every day to prioritize an environment of respect for those we serve and one another and should be visible in your actions on a day-to-day.Supervision N/ASection 3: Experience, Skills, Knowledge Requirements Minimum of 3–7 years of progressive experience in fraud investigations, financial crimes, or financial services risk managementStrong experience conducting complex investigations involving multiple data points, linked accounts, and suspicious activity patternsStrong knowledge of fraud typologies, investigative techniques, and fraud risk management practicesProven ability to identify emerging fraud patterns and translate findings into actionable recommendationsAbility to operate independently and exercise sound judgment in high-risk or ambiguous mattersStrong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skillsExceptional written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrated ability to communicate with senior stakeholders and cross-functional partnersStrong attention to detail and commitment to qualityProficiency with case management, monitoring, and reporting toolsExperience in banking, financial services, retirement services, wealth services, fintech, or law enforcementExperience supporting fraud control improvements or investigative process enhancementsCertifications such as CFE, CAMS, or CFCS are a plusBachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience preferredFor all virtual remote positions, in order to ensure associates can effectively perform their job duties with no distractions, we require an uninterrupted virtual workspace and there is also an expectation of family care being in place during business hours.
