Software Developer Subject Matter Expert

Role Description

We are seeking a software developer/computer programmer to support the development, maintenance, and delivery of Machinery Control System (MCS) software for DDG-51 Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers. The selected candidate will interface with U.S. Navy civilian software and systems engineers, support contractors, U.S. Navy ships force, OEMs, and engineering management, contributing to all aspects of the software life cycle.

• Develop and maintain working knowledge of the DDG-51 Machinery Control System (MCS)
• Develop and maintain working knowledge of the DDG-51 MCS Training Software
• Design, develop, test, install, and maintain MCS software and supporting software products
• Design, develop, test, install, and maintain MCS Training software and supporting software products
• Work with Microsoft Visual Studio, Git version control, PLC software development tools, MATLAB, Simulink, and Simulink Coder (Real-Time Workshop)
• Develop in C/C++ within real-time and embedded operating system environments (e.g., VxWorks)
• Identify and document software and system related problems
• Resolve software problems through debugging, research, and investigation
• Provide distance and onsite support of software problems
• Prepare and maintain new and/or existing software requirements
• Write, review, and maintain technical documentation such as user manuals, product specifications, and training materials
• Participate in code reviews and peer reviews of software changes
• Support configuration management processes and software baselines
• Participate in special projects as required
• Support lifecycle activities for LBES simulators and Test Tools
• Interface with U.S. Navy civilian software and systems engineers, support contractors, U.S. Navy ships force, OEMs, and engineering management

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or Mathematics with field of concentration in computer science
• 3 - 9+ years of experience in software development
• Active DoD Secret clearance and US citizenship

Physical Requirements

• Employees working in naval industrial environments must meet certain physical requirements to safely perform essential job functions:
• Capable of standing and walking for extended periods, often on uneven, wet, or slippery surfaces
• Ability to climb vertical ladders, stairs, and steep inclines while carrying tools or equipment
• Work in confined spaces with limited ventilation and restricted movement
• Possess sufficient manual dexterity and grip strength to operate hand and power tools
• Handle materials weighing up to fifty pounds regularly, with occasional lifting of heavier objects with assistance
• Physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach overhead repeatedly throughout the workday
• Adequate vision to read technical manuals and detect safety hazards
• Hearing capability sufficient to perceive warning signals, alarms, and verbal communications in noisy environments
• Work in varying environmental conditions including extreme temperatures, high humidity, direct sunlight, and exposure to weather elements
• Stamina to work extended shifts and maintain stability on moving vessels
• Capability to respond quickly to emergency situations

Desired Qualifications

• Experience developing and maintaining functional models using Simulink
• Experience using MATLAB, Simulink, and Simulink Coder (Real-Time Workshop) to generate C/C++ source code
• Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio to develop, compile, and debug source code in C++
• Experience designing, developing, testing, and installing software and supporting software products
• Experience writing, reviewing, and maintaining technical documentation
• Basic knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP
• Experience supporting and troubleshooting networked, IP-based systems both onsite and via distance support

Compensation

The projected compensation range for this position is based on full-time status: USD $78,900.00 - USD $123,300.00 /Yr.
