Patent Paralegal II

Overview

A leading law firm is seeking an experienced Patent Paralegal II to support its Intellectual Property team in managing U.S. and international patent prosecution matters. This role will work closely with attorneys and IP professionals to coordinate filings, manage deadlines, maintain patent records, and support the day-to-day operations of a busy patent practice.

The ideal candidate will possess strong patent prosecution experience, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities

• Prepare and file patent prosecution documents, including responses to USPTO notices, office actions, information disclosure statements, issue fee submissions, and publication-related filings.
• Review patent files and prepare Information Disclosure Statements for U.S. and international patent applications.
• Prepare shell amendments and related documentation for attorney review and use in patent prosecution matters.
• Maintain patent databases, monitor deadlines, calculate Patent Term Adjustments, and ensure accuracy of patent records.
• Prepare and submit electronic filings through the USPTO, including fee processing and document management.
• Create and maintain patent prosecution tracking tools, checklists, and related records.
• Research and retrieve patent files, records, and supporting documentation as requested.
• Process invoices and financial documents in accordance with established procedures.
• Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior patent paralegals and support staff.
• Stay current on patent prosecution procedures, filing requirements, and technology tools to support evolving client and practice needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of patent prosecution experience in a law firm or professional services environment; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of USPTO rules, procedures, filing requirements, and patent prosecution processes.
• Experience preparing and submitting electronic filings through USPTO systems.
• Familiarity with U.S. and international patent prosecution practices and procedures.
• Strong research, organizational, and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn new systems and databases.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Professional demeanor with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
