IHI has an opportunity for an Operations Technician for our West Deptford, NJ plant. The hourly rate for this position is $44.29 - $52.53 per hour, depending on experience.

The Operations Technician assists in the safe and efficient operation of the power plant and the supporting equipment and systems. Carries out all routine HRSG/water chemistry analysis, equipment inspections, monitors operating components, performs minor maintenance and plant status. The operations technician will also fill in Control Room operator duties as needed.

The Operations Technician operates from established and well-known procedures under minimum supervision performing duties independently with only general direction given. The Operations Technician encounters recurring work situations of moderate complexity, with occasional variations from the norm. Decisions are made within prescribed operating and casualty procedures and guidelines.

The Operations Technician must perform work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times. Must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance and provide suggestions for plant improvements. The Operations Technician must perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio. All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are met.

Job Functions

• Assist in start-up, shut-down and normal operations of power plant systems.
• Operate major auxiliary apparatus such as: air compressors; circulating water systems; boiler feedwater treatment system; water systems; boiler feedwater and condensate system; and locally controlled electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Perform operating tests and inspections and make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment assigned to achieve proper operating conditions.
• Execute orders from the Shift Supervisor/Control Room Operator on isolated panels for clearing equipment or making it ready for service in accordance with operating instructions and procedures; clear, tag, test and safety tape these operations.
• Perform routine water chemistry analysis.
• Maintain logs as assigned.
• Report any abnormal or irregular conditions that develop during the progress of the work and take corrective measures within the scope of operating instructions.
• Assist maintenance personnel during maintenance periods.
• Complete other tasks as required by the Shift Supervisor/Control Room Operator or the Operations Manager (Plant Leadership team).
• Reports to the Shift Supervisor and receives work directions from the CRO.
• Supports shift coverage by filling in for Control Room Operators or other Operations Technicians as needed.
• Temporary assignment to shift rotation as needed
• Direct, plan and coordinates the activities and functions of on-shift operating personnel to ensure safe and reliable unit operations.
• Daily Operational oversight of the facility's electric production units consisting of Combined Cycle unit, water treatment facility, 2.4 miles 230KV high line and two Natural gas pressure station with 2.4 miles of gas pipeline.
• Daily Operational oversight of the facilities 2.4 miles of gas pipeline operations to customer delivery point.
• Ensure that units are operated within Federal, State and City regulations and IHI Power Servies procedures.
• Acts as initial Incident Commander during facility's emergency response to environmental, fire, terrorist, and safety incidents.
• Communicates real time operational events with the facility's commercial team for NRG energy markets.
• Analyze plant and equipment performance, and direct adjustments to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability.
• Direct the removal and return to service of equipment, as requested, for maintenance purposes and in accordance with established LOTO, Safe Work Permit and Work Order procedures.
• Evaluate operating procedures, revise or recommend revisions depending upon scope of changes required.
• Evaluate operating components within the station and recommend changes toward improving their functional efficiency.
• Recommend the formulation of operating procedures as required to obtain maximum equipment reliability, economics, safety and maximum manpower efficiency.
• Administers the Company policies and WDE Generating Station Directives and Site-specific Operating Procedures

Education and Experience An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

• Must be fully WDE control Room qualified or able to due so in a timely manner.
• Bachelor's in engineering or physical sciences preferred or Minimum of 2 years in control room operations.
• NJ Stationary Engineers License Red Seal or ability to obtain in 12 months.
• Minimum of 4 years' experience in Control Room and/or 5 years Field of operation of high-pressure boilers, steam turbine generators and all associated equipment.
• Ability to supervise technical testing/calibration, repair and installation duties in power plant location on all power plant electrical equipment and systems is required.
• Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
• Experience in water chemistry control, analysis of water conditions, water treatment facility operations and chemical handling requirements is required.
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of combustion/steam turbine operations, closed system steam generation, industrial safety, hazardous waste management and inspection/recording of plant parameters is highly desirable.
• Experience with piping and instrument schematics and process controls.
• Extensive working knowledge of power plant industry.
• Must successfully complete a plant operator's knowledge examination.
