About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: CVICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in CVICU or CVRU License: Required RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - BLS/ACLS - Critical Care training - 2 years of CVICU or CVRU experience - A passion for surgical heart care - High energy and upbeat personality Description: The unit is a 19-bed mixed CVICU/CVRU. Nurse-to-patient ratios can be 1:2 or 1:1 depending on patient acuity. There may be 1:3 ratios for downgraded patients. The unit is staffed with highly trained charge nurses who assist as needed. An educator is available to support new nurses during their orientation. There are 13 day shift RN positions and 11 night shift RN positions available. A nurse aide is present on all shifts to assist with care. The unit performs approximately 850 heart surgeries per year. Core nurses are trained in critical care, heart care, recovery, and device management. An ECMO team nurse is available for patient support. Common procedures performed include IABP, Impella management, and hemodynamic monitoring. Nurses may be involved in pulling chest tubes and pacer wires. LVAD care is supported by the team. Intubation and extubation may also occur as part of routine care. The ideal candidate will possess a high-energy, friendly demeanor and a passion for lifelong learning in critical care and cardiac skills. Nurses should be prepared to work in various ICUs and stepdown units as needed. Proper dress code includes navy blue or white scrubs, nursing shoes, and hair secured off the shoulders. Nurses should arrive ready for work no earlier than 7 minutes prior to their shift. Weekends and on-call duties are required every other week.
