Job Title: Surgical RN (with scrub abilities), RN, OR
Location: Salmon, Idaho
Shift: Days, Monday-Thursday, 36 hours/week, 9 hours/day, 08:00-16:00
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description:
Provides direct patient care to neonate through geriatric patient populations. Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment. Communicates with surgeon and anesthesia provider continuously, and as needed concerning patient condition. Assists with the maintenance of surgical equipment and inventory. Participates in performance improvement activities. Assesses operating room for equipment functioning and readiness, obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of surgical operating team are met. Continuously acts as patient advocate throughout the perioperative phases of care.
Responsibilities:
- Follows and supports the policies, mission, vision and values.
- Performs patient duties in pre-operative, intra-operative, in PACU and post-operative areas.
- Adapts nursing procedures to meet treatment needs of all age groups.
- Prepares the patient for surgery in cooperation with the anesthesia provider.
- Begins and continues discharge planning and education throughout the peri-operative experience.
- Observes behavioral and physiologic changes and takes appropriate actions and documents.
- Assessment and reassessment of the patient communicated clearly in charting.
- Completes documentation within shift according to standards, policies, and procedures.
- Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes timely appropriate actions.
- Assesses pain and utilizes pain management techniques, educating patient and family.
- Completes pre-operative checklist before the patient is taken into the surgical suite.
- Ensures readiness and preparation for assigned cases with timely patient placement.
- Positions and prepares patients correctly for procedures using aseptic techniques.
- Coordinates and supervises patient care, providing patient and family education as needed.
- Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic drugs and surgical equipment operation.
- Accurately records and manages surgical counts, communicates with the surgical team.
- Communicates laboratory and imaging reports to the surgeon during procedures.
- Gives an effective intra-operative condition report to the PACU nurse.
- Participates in instrument processing, sterilization, and monitoring when necessary.
- Performs duties of circulating RN and scrub RN once trained.
Requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with Associates, Diploma, or BSN Degree required.
- Active Idaho or compact state RN license required upon hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
- Advanced Life Support (ACLS) certification within one year of hire.
- Basic computer skills, must be able to navigate Microsoft Windows-based programs.
- Must be available to work scheduled call for emergency surgical services.
