Social Worker I - Health and Social Services Job ID: 103265 Location: Instructional Support Center Position Type: Professional/Technical/ Social Worker I Date Posted: 6/18/2026 Date Available: 7/202/2026 Target Openings: 1 Standard Hours: 40 Salary: Minimum $60,076.00/Annually; Maximum $92,394.00/Annually License and Certification Qualifications Certification by state of Georgia as a school social worker (Required) Education Qualifications Master's Degree in related field (Required) Experience Qualifications 2 years successful social work experience post master's level (Preferred) Skills Qualifications Knowledge of early childhood development and family dynamics Ability to effectively and appropriately assess the academic, emotional, and social needs of students Ability to provide crisis intervention services to students, families, and schools Ability to effectively advocate for students, families, and schools Ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal Ability to work collaboratively with district staff, local school staff and community partners Ability to act as a representative of Gwinnett County Public Schools Primary Responsibilities Student Centered Support and Interventions Provide direct case services to address academic, social, and emotional concerns. Direct case services include student check‑ins, small groups, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, home visits, and community service coordination. Conduct home visits after consultation with administration and/or upon school social worker assessment to establish effective communication between the parent/guardian and school. Provide crisis intervention support to students, families, and local schools for situations affecting attendance, social/emotional health, and school environment. Provide student‑centered services to assist with adjustment, attendance, academic achievement, mental health issues, and social emotional learning. Coordination and Collaboration Serve as the liaison between families and schools concerning compliance with the state compulsory attendance law. Collaborate with local schools to address student social emotional issues. Coordinate student/family utilization of community resources and facilitate access of applicable services through school social work delivery model. Consult with local schools and the Department of Family and Children Services concerning all forms of suspected child abuse and neglect. Serve as a liaison between the district and community services agencies. Planning and Program Management Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs identified to promote academic achievement. Conduct student, family, and school needs assessment. Develop long‑term and short‑term intervention plans consistent with needs assessment. Advocate for appropriate services on behalf of students, families, and schools. Actively participate in appropriate professional development and monthly staff meetings to enhance knowledge and skills. Data Collection, Documentation, and Reporting Complete and submit monthly reports in accordance with departmental standards to the Director of Health and Social Services. Maintain documentation of provided student services, case files, and all other student information in accordance with GCPS policy and procedure. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee is also required to talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to touch, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties.
