Position overview Position title: Psychiatry Research Faculty Salary range: The posted UC Salary scales set the minimum pay at the appointment as determined by appointment type and, if applicable, rank and/or step. The pay range for this position is $120,200 - $255,900. Salary is negotiated annually. As a leader in innovative research, state‑of‑the‑art treatment, and comprehensive education in psychiatry, the Department of Psychiatry is seeking a faculty leader in Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) and mental health to advance next‑generation learning health systems and implementation science. The ideal candidate will bridge clinical psychiatry and data science, leveraging electronic health records (EHR), ML, and real‑world data to improve patient outcomes, optimize care delivery, and drive continuous system‑level learning. We are seeking a clinical scientist who will translate research into scalable, implemented solutions with measurable impact across behavioral health settings. Responsibilities Conduct pioneering research in computational psychiatry and mental health. Secure and manage extramural funding to support research initiatives. Publish high‑impact findings in leading scientific journals. Mentor and inspire the next generation of AI mental health providers and researchers. Develop and teach advanced courses in psychiatry and related fields (see Education & Training). Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify AI tools and methods to enhance clinical practices and patient care, and may be required to provide clinical services. Engage in community outreach to promote mental health awareness and education. The appointment will be based on the candidate’s background and experience. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank. Additional information can be found here: Health Sciences Compensation Plan (APM-671) Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Candidates must have a PhD in clinical mental health science or a related field and/or an MD or equivalent degree. Candidates must have 5+ years of experience in clinical or translational research; an independent, extramurally funded research program (e.g., NIH R01 or similar grants as PI); and 5+ years of research published in high‑impact journals, with 25+ publications in psychiatric or related research. Candidates must also have 5+ years of a track record of teaching and/or mentorship activities. Candidates with a PhD who will have clinical duties must have graduated from an APA-accredited doctoral program which includes completion of an APA-accredited internship and have or be eligible for a license from the California Board of Psychology. Candidates with an MD or equivalent degree who will have clinical duties must be board certified or board eligible in their related field and must also be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit, as determined by the Medical Board of California.
