Staff Dentist

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work that is to be performed in the identified position. Summary: The Staff Dentist provides comprehensive dental care to Alabama A&M students and limited services to faculty/staff as defined by clinic policy. This role ensures high-quality, culturally competent clinical care and supports the clinic's mission of preventive health and academic success.

Perform comprehensive examinations, diagnosis, and treatment planning.

Provide restorative care, simple extractions, limited endodontics, periodontal therapy, and emergency care.

Manage acute dental pain, infections, and urgent walk-ins.

Prescribe medications within Alabama prescribing laws.

Emphasize prevention, oral hygiene instruction, and whole-health integration.

Identify dental issues that may interfere with a student's ability to attend class, focus, or perform academically.

Collaborate with campus medical staff to address dentalmedical comorbidities.

Complete detailed, accurate clinical notes, treatment plans, consents, and referrals.

Ensure radiographs meet diagnostic and regulatory standards.

Work closely with the Dental Director and hygienists/assistants for efficient patient flow.

Participate in continuing education and clinic quality-improvement meetings.

DDS/DMD and current Alabama dental license.

CPR/BLS certification.

Experience with digital dentistry preferred (intraoral scanners, digital radiography).

Sensitivity to the unique needs of students from underserved populations.
