Job Description

The position requires commitment to working weekends and occasional floating between units. Job Description The ideal candidate will work in a high-acuity, fast-paced Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) dealing with medically complex and critically ill patients. Responsibilities include managing respiratory failure of various etiologies, post-central venous line (CVL) care, handling cases of cardiac arrest with targeted temperature management (TTM), multisystem organ failure, and others. This position involves procedures such as:
- Bedside central and arterial line placements
- Chest tube placement
- Rapid sequence intubation
- Paracentesis and thoracentesis
- Code blue response
- Staffing Ratio: Standard is 2:1; may increase to 4:1 if boarders are present.
- Support: 1 CNA per shift to assist with patient care.
- Daily Census: Approximately 25 patients.
- Working Environment: Fully staffed units with occasional floating requirements to telemetry units.
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, with ongoing education in stroke management.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years, including charge experience and patient ratio handling of 2-3 patients.
- Travel Experience: Required.
- Charting System: Proficiency in EPIC is necessary.
- Vaccine Policies: COVID-19 vaccine is not required; flu vaccine status is currently unknown.
- Orientation: 24 hours of orientation will be provided.
- Unit Support Services: Interdisciplinary teams including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and social services.
- Arterial line management
- Chest tube assistance
- Management of ventilated patients
- Fluid and medication titration for critical care scenarios
