Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor

Job Details Position Number: 60042968 Grade: NC10 Description of Work The primary purpose of this Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor is to identify blind, visually impaired, or deafblind persons whose disability creates a substantial impediment to employment and to enable them to obtain employment. This is achieved through a planned program of rehabilitation services including job development and placement services and direct interaction with employers in the community to assist the person in achieving employment commensurate with his or her skills, choice, interests, and capabilities. The counselor is primarily responsible for providing and coordinating these services to individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or deafblind. Job Duties Make constant efforts to explain the scope and range of vocational rehabilitation services to potential consumers and to potential referral sources, including ophthalmologists, optometrists, and county Departments of Social Services. Complete the application and preliminary assessment process that includes an initial interview and diagnostic study. Determine consumer eligibility for services and assist in Individualized Employment Plan (IPE) development after setting a job goal that is commensurate with consumer abilities, capabilities, and interests. Co‑ordinate or authorize services to promote consumer employment. Provide and/or coordinate job development and placement according to the consumer’s job goal. Execute outreach to connect with, educate, and re‑educate eye care providers and improve the number of appropriate referrals to the agency from community sources. Execute case finding, plan development, and service provision with appropriate referrals in accordance with federal eligibility criteria. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of or experience in case management. Knowledge of or experience working with people with disabilities. Knowledge of or experience working with a team of professionals to help a client meet a goal. Physical Requirements Light work: up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds frequently, or a negligible amount constantly. Exertion of greater forces may be required when using arm or leg controls. The job involves walking through different job sites, high schools, and touring college campuses. Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $43,267 – $75,718. The position is eligible for a hybrid‑teleworking schedule to include weekly on‑site work hours. Minimum Education and Experience Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from an accredited institution; or Master’s degree in a related human services field from an accredited institution; or Current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission of Rehabilitation Counselor Certification.
