Requirements: Contractor is responsible for maintaining equipment, insurance, licensing, permits, and contract compliance documentation.

Job Overview

CR Express is hiring experienced Class A CDL Drivers for local intermodal routes across the Chicagoland network. Whether you prefer the stability of hourly W-2 employment or the higher earning potential of 1099 owner-operator work, we have consistent freight running out of local rail ramps, container depots, and customer facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

Transport intermodal containers between Chicago rail ramps, terminals, warehouses, customer plants, and container yards.
Handle live-load/unload operations, drop-and-hook assignments, and time-sensitive container pickups/deliveries.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections; verify container, chassis, and seal numbers.
Maintain accurate electronic dispatch updates, paperwork, and load documentation.
Provide operational flexibility by accepting alternate freight equipment when volume demands (e.g., dry van, flatbed, specialized loads, hazmat, or permitted overweight loads).
Maintain weekend availability when freight surges require extra ramp coverage.

Qualifications & Requirements

Driver Requirements (Both W-2 & 1099)

CDL: Valid Class A CDL.
Medical: Active DOT Medical Certification.
Safety: Acceptable MVR and FMCSA/DOT compliance record.
W-2 Experience: Minimum 2 years of verifiable intermodal experience.
1099 Experience: Verifiable experience hauling permitted overweight loads required.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong familiarity with Chicagoland rail ramps, container depots, and local routing.
Experience operating electronic dispatch software and mobile apps.
Hazmat endorsement highly encouraged (earns higher hourly pay for W-2 drivers).
