Senior HVAC Specialist

The Senior HVAC Specialist provides maintenance for the RCC and RHA venues, which includes maintaining and repairing the venues, preventative maintenance and responding to clients’ requests and troubleshooting technical issues efficiently. This position will be devoted to performing complex, specialized and skilled maintenance troubleshooting and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems across our three venues. Additionally, this position will support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our HVAC systems and provide emergency response coverage if necessary. Work Hours: This position will primarily work first shift with some nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency coverage required. Install, maintain, diagnose, and repair commercial and industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, rooftop units, and exhaust systems Program, calibrate, and troubleshoot HVAC control systems and building automation systems (BAS) while monitoring performance and adjusting settings to optimize performance Ensure HVAC systems comply with federal, state, and local codes, including EPA, OSHA, and energy regulations Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical and electronic system failures and replace motors, compressors, controls, valves, and related components when needed Provide technical assistant and training to maintenance staff Participate and adhere to department safety policies and procedures Education and Experience: High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; 3 to 5 years' experience in construction or skilled maintenance and repair of a variety of building systems, including HVAC, electrical and plumbing, or related work OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted Preferred Qualifications: EPA 608, North American Technician Excellence (NATE), HVAC Excellence or similar certifications Knowledge Of: HVAC Systems Fire systems and fire panels Sprinkler system regulations Maintenance and repair techniques for building systems and equipment Facilities management principles and practices Modern office practices and procedures including the use of standard office equipment and computer applications such as word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications Skill In: Planning, scheduling, and coordinating facility maintenance projects such as renovations, upgrades, or expansions Verbal and written communication Ability To: Follow preventive maintenance schedules Troubleshoot common issues and coordinate repairs with contractors or in-house maintenance staff Oversee projects from conception to completion while ensuring on time completion within budget ADA and Other Requirements Work Environment and Physical Effort: Medium: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment, outdoor environment, and construction site. Employees may occasionally work in or around street environment (near moving traffic), vehicles, warehouse environment, and shop environment. Work Exposures: There is frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts. Employees may occasionally interact with individuals who are hostile or irate, be exposed to extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), fumes or airborne particles, loud noises (85+ decibels average over8-hour working day such as heavy trucks, jack hammers, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, construction).
