Sheet Metal Technician
This role focuses on the fabrication, maintenance, modification, and repair of complex aircraft structures and assemblies, with a strong emphasis on sheet metal work and structural integrity. You will train and lead teams of 1015 technicians, ensure high-quality workmanship, and support both commercial and defense aircraft programs in a controlled shop environment.
- Train and lead teams of approximately 1015 technicians, providing clear direction, workflow management, and on-the-job coaching.
- Participate in calibration checks as needed to ensure tools and equipment operate within required tolerances.
- Fabricate complex assemblies composed of sheet metal, machined parts, and composite components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
- Perform aircraft sheet metal repair and structural repair, including maintenance, modification, and component installation on various airframes.
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble complex structural items and mechanical assemblies, ensuring alignment, fit, and function.
- Plan, lay out, fabricate, and install structural mechanical modifications and assemblies based on engineering instructions and technical documentation.
- Carry out fabrication, maintenance, modification, and repair on pressurized and non-pressurized structures, external structures, primary load-path structures, and heavy sheet metal and machined parts.
- Work on transparencies and operable control mechanisms such as links, latches, cables, and quadrants, ensuring proper operation and safety.
- Install wire harnesses and mechanical aspects of electrical components, following applicable standards and drawings.
- Assist and mentor team members in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, work instructions, and technical standards.
- Use and maintain a complete set of personal tools required to perform work accurately, efficiently, and safely.
- Adhere to applicable quality, regulatory, and industry standards such as FAR Part 25, MIL-STD-516, and internal quality inspection requirements.
- Support workflow and production goals by coordinating tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring timely completion of assignments.
- Follow all safety, shop, and ITAR-related procedures while working in an open bay, air-controlled environment.
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- At least 3+ years of leadership experience specifically in workflow management.
- At least 5+ years of sheet metal experience, preferably in an aircraft or aerospace environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with aircraft sheet metal fabrication, repair, and structural modification.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, work instructions, and technical documentation.
- Experience with quality inspection practices related to aircraft structures and assemblies.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and lay out structural mechanical modifications and assemblies.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as part of daily job duties.
- Ownership and proficient use of personal tools necessary to perform fabrication, repair, and installation tasks.
- Experience with C-130 or similar airframe structures, systems, and components (highly preferred).
- Familiarity with regulatory and industry standards such as FAR Part 25 and MIL-STD-516.
- Eligibility to work in an ITAR-regulated facility.
- FAA or A&P Certified Airframe License is a plus but not required.
- Experience working on defense aircraft and commercial aircraft structures.
- Experience with structural performance and safety standards (e.g., SPO-related work).
- Strong mentoring skills with the ability to guide less experienced technicians.
- Attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality and safety.
- Effective communication skills to provide clear instructions and feedback within a team setting.

The role is based in an open bay shop environment that is air-controlled for comfort and consistent working conditions. You will work a 4x10 schedule, typically providing four ten-hour shifts with Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays off. The facility operates under ITAR regulations and supports both commercial and defense aircraft programs, with a strong focus on precision, safety, and compliance. You will regularly use your own personal tools along with calibrated shop equipment to perform fabrication, repair, and installation work on aircraft structures and assemblies.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brooksville, FL.
The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $45.00/hr.
