Public Health Nurses (PHNs) play a vital role in promoting wellness and protecting Alaska communities, such as: Health screenings and preventive care Infectious disease monitoring and treatment Community health assessments and improvement initiatives As a Public Health Nurse 3, you’ll bring expert-level care, contribute to quality improvement efforts, and travel periodically to outlying communities to deliver care where it’s needed most. For more in-depth benefit information, please visit: The working environment you can expect Dillingham sits on Nushagak Bay at the mouth of the Nushagak River, an inlet of Bristol Bay in southwestern Alaska. It serves as the regional hub for Bristol Bay’s salmon fishery, home to the world’s largest wild sockeye runs and other Pacific salmon species. Dillingham is also the headquarters for the nearby Togiak National Wildlife Refuge, home to walruses, seals, migratory birds, and fish, and includes one of the largest wild herring fisheries in the world. Dillingham is most easily reached by air and is 360 air miles from Anchorage. Please ensure your application (through work history, volunteer experience (duties summary), training, education, licenses, certifications, etc.) supports how you have gained the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors (competencies) and that you possess the minimum required competencies for the job class. Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska; AND Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university or Direct Entry Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing from an accredited college or university; AND Any combination of additional education, certification, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in: Public Health: Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases. Decision Making: Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change. Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences. Partnering: Develops networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals. Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information. Equivalent to those typically gained by: Advanced post‑secondary education in nursing, public health, healthcare services, healthcare administration, or a closely related field that includes master’s level study in nursing and/or public health;

AND/OR

Professional experience in public health, community health, international health, and/or occupational health nursing. Special Notes Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of RN licensure will be required prior to appointment and reporting for duty.
