Responsibilities

• Provide safe, engaging supervision and companionship in the consumer’s home (no medical/nursing tasks).indeed+1
• Support with basic activities of daily living as needed (hygiene prompts, dressing assistance, meal and snack prep, light tidying related to the consumer).indeed+2
• Follow the family’s routine, house rules, and care preferences while respecting cultural and linguistic differences.axiscare+1
• Use positive, calm approaches to redirect challenging behaviors and maintain safety.gusto+1
• Engage clients in age-appropriate activities (games, crafts, reading, walks, simple community outings as allowed by the plan).[credenzahealth+1
• Monitor and immediately report safety concerns, incidents, or changes in the client’s condition to the agency and family per policy.policy.dcfs.lacounty+1
• Accurately complete basic documentation (time sheets, visit notes, incident reports) and submit them on time.axiscare+1
• Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and HIPAA/privacy protections at all times.

Skills

• Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities, developmental or intellectual disabilities support, or senior care is highly valued
• Familiarity with care plans, medication administration protocols, vital signs monitoring, and first aid/CPR certification
• Ability to perform manual handling tasks safely using equipment like Hoyer lifts or patient transfer methods
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, healthcare teams, and community resources
• Experience working within home health settings or assisted living environments is preferred
• Demonstrated ability to handle heavy lifting safely and assist with mobility or transfers as needed
• Genuine compassion, patience, and respect for people with disabilities and their families.
• Strong communication skills, including clear, calm communication with parents/guardians and agency staff.
• Reliability and professionalism: arrives on time, follows schedules, and respects privacy and boundaries.
• Good judgment and problem-solving in the home (what to do if a behavior escalates, if a parent is late coming home, if a minor injury occurs, etc.).
• Ability to work independently in the home while following written and verbal directions from families and supervisors.
• Comfort working with diverse families and communities across Los Angeles County; culturally sensitive and non-judgmental.
