As a Neonatal ICU Charge RN in a nonprofit hospital with a Level IV NICU,  this role leads care for the most fragile newborns requiring complex therapies such as ECMO, high-frequency ventilation, nitric oxide, and therapeutic hypothermia. The Night Shift NICU Charge Nurse coordinates family-centered care in a unit designed for bonding, privacy, and developmental support, with lactation services, integrated social work, and child-life collaboration. This Charge Nurse Neonatal Intensive Care Unit position partners closely with neonatologists, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists to deliver seamless, high-acuity care. Continuous quality improvement, bedside safety huddles, and standardized pathways empower the Neonatal ICU Charge RN to drive exceptional outcomes throughout the night shift.

The Charge Nurse NICU Night Shift reports to the NICU Nurse Manager with close collaboration alongside the Women’s and Children’s Services leadership and the Neonatology Medical Director. This NICU Night Shift Charge Registered Nurse oversees staffing and assignments, mentors and precepts team members, coordinates patient flow and admissions, and escalates concerns using clear, data-driven communication. The Charge RN Neonatal Intensive Care Unit advances ethical, holistic care by advocating for family values, optimizing transitions of care, and aligning practice with evidence-based bundles for sepsis, golden hour stabilization, and central-line safety.
