Phlebotomist Tech II, Evening Shift

Overview The Laboratory Support Tech role is a hybrid position encompassing the duties of a Clinical Laboratory Assistant and a Phlebotomist. Under supervision, collects blood samples by performing venipunctures or finger or heel sticks on patients. Checks the quality of blood and ensures the safety and comfort of the patient, following established standards and practices. Processes all samples within the department, either manually or using automation equipment, including send-outs. Delivers outstanding customer service through verbal and written communication. Responsibilities Obtains venous and/or capillary blood specimens according to established procedures. Uses a computerized system for logging and tracking specimen collection and patient information. Identifies and labels specimens for processing, delivery, and storage. Performs accurate and complete specimen registration, order entry, and order checking of requisitions for proper data entry. Operates simple medical laboratory equipment, such as a centrifuge and microscope, as needed. Communicates effectively with laboratory and medical staff to resolve problems and concerns regarding specimens and to properly identify and label specimens for processing, delivery, or storage. Monitors pending work and resolves specimen issues as needed. Sorts laboratory reports/mail and distributes them to appropriate mailboxes. Performs inventory and ordering of supplies, including requisitions for distribution to clients. Rotates stock to prevent outdating. Fills all supply requests for client needs. Responds to telephone inquiries for test results, specimen status, or other general inquiries. Communicates abnormal values to providers as necessary. Assists with training new team members as needed. Performs maintenance and troubleshoots instruments as needed. Work Experience Qualifications Education High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Completion of an accredited program in phlebotomy preferred. Certification as a registered phlebotomist by a nationally recognized organization (e.g., American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians) preferred. Experience Minimum of two (2) years of work experience as a phlebotomist preferred. Experience in a healthcare environment preferred. Basic medical laboratory knowledge, good organizational skills, and commitment to quality specimen handling preferred. Basic phlebotomy skills preferred due to familiarity with laboratory specimen collection and processing.
