Material Handler

This role involves safely handling materials in a busy warehouse environment, including loading and unloading containers, operating forklifts and scissor lifts, and preparing outbound shipments for delivery. You will work both on and off lifting equipment, perform physical tasks such as climbing and using hand tools, and ensure accurate, compliant, and efficient movement of goods throughout the facility.

Responsibilities

• Load, unload, and move materials within the warehouse, plant yard, or worksite using forklifts, scissor lifts, and other material handling equipment.
• Open ocean containers using bolt cutters or other hand tools as needed, following safety guidelines.
• Receive inbound production, unload and store materials in designated warehouse locations, and ensure accurate placement.
• Scan all receipts and verify counts against packing slips to maintain accurate inventory records.
• Load materials onto or from pallets, racks, or other shipping devices in a safe and organized manner.
• Select and pick production for outbound customer shipments using a computerized order selection sheet.
• Stage selected products for order verification and ensure the correct items and quantities are prepared for shipment.
• Load outbound shipments onto designated motor carriers and secure cargo using straps, chains, or other devices to comply with DOT Cargo Securement Regulations.
• Inspect products received into the warehouse for transit or loading damage and report issues to the appropriate personnel.
• Perform daily visual inspections of assigned forklift equipment prior to the start of each shift, checking fluids, leaks, tires, forks, and safety equipment.
• Document inspection findings and communicate any defects so repairs can be scheduled with maintenance or an outside vendor.
• Work in and around machinery, including climbing over machines and moving up and down from lifts, with approximately 20% of time on lifts and 80% off lifts.
• Use a sledgehammer to break cement blocks and perform other physical tasks as required.
• Follow verbal and written instructions from supervisors and adhere to all safety procedures and warehouse policies.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper use of rain gear, coveralls, and personal protective equipment.

Essential Skills

• Previous forklift experience, including safe operation and daily equipment inspections.
• Experience working in a warehousing environment, including loading, unloading, and material handling.
• Background in 3PL (third-party logistics) operations or similar distribution environments.
• Ability to read and follow work orders, packing slips, and computerized order selection sheets.
• Proficiency with RF scanning equipment for inventory and receipt verification.
• Ability to safely operate scissor lifts and work at heights when required.
• Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing, lifting, and using tools such as sledgehammers and bolt cutters.
• Strong attention to detail when verifying counts, inspecting products, and securing cargo.
• Understanding of or willingness to learn DOT Cargo Securement Regulations and apply them in daily work.
• Commitment to following safety protocols and using required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear and safety glasses.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in shipping and receiving operations within a warehouse or distribution center.
• Familiarity with inventory control processes and warehouse management systems.
• Ability to work effectively with supervisors and team members in a fast-paced environment.
• Comfort working both indoors and outdoors as needed, including in varying weather conditions.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks to meet shipping and receiving deadlines.

Work Environment

The main office and warehouse is a large, modern facility that has expanded over time to approximately 200,000 square feet, providing ample space for efficient material handling and storage. You will work a daytime schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., operating forklifts, scissor lifts, and RF scanning equipment in a busy shipping and receiving environment. The role requires frequent movement throughout the warehouse, including climbing over machinery and working on and off lifts, with about 20% of the time spent on lifts and 80% off. The facility provides rain gear and coveralls, and all employees must wear steel-toe footwear and safety glasses while on the warehouse floor. The environment emphasizes safety, proper cargo securement, and adherence to established procedures while supporting efficient, high-volume material handling operations.

This is a Contract position based out of CHAMBERSBURG, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
