Responsibilities
The Department of Neurosurgery at the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama Health is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Pediatric Neurosurgeon to join our growing multidisciplinary academic practice. This is an outstanding opportunity to help expand and shape a comprehensive pediatric neurosurgery program within the region's only academic health system and tertiary referral center.
The successful candidate will provide the highest quality neurosurgical care to infants, children, and adolescents while contributing to the department's missions of clinical excellence, education, research, and innovation. Faculty members enjoy a collaborative practice environment with opportunities to participate in program development, clinical research, and the education of future physicians.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive pediatric neurosurgical care including evaluation, diagnosis, operative management, and postoperative care of infants, children, and adolescents.
- Treat a broad spectrum of pediatric neurosurgical conditions including:
- Brain and spinal tumors
- Hydrocephalus
- Chiari malformations
- Craniosynostosis
- Spina bifida and myelomeningocele
- Congenital spinal disorders
- Epilepsy
- Traumatic brain and spinal injuries
- Pediatric vascular abnormalities
- Peripheral nerve disorders
- Functional and endoscopic neurosurgical conditions
- Participate in shared pediatric neurosurgery call coverage.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide coordinated, family centered care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary conferences, tumor boards, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the continued growth and strategic development of pediatric neurosurgical services throughout the region.
- Support departmental operational excellence while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and quality.
Academic Responsibilities
- Teach and mentor medical students, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers.
- Participate in clinical, translational, or outcomes based research.
- Develop scholarly activities including publications, presentations, and national meeting participation.
- Participate in departmental, hospital, and university committees.
- Contribute to the academic mission through innovation, education, and service.
Qualifications
Required
- MD or DO (or equivalent) from an accredited medical school.
- Completion of an accredited Neurological Surgery Residency.
- Completion of an accredited Pediatric Neurosurgery Fellowship.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in Neurological Surgery.
- Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Alabama.
- Eligible for medical staff membership and hospital privileges.
Preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to academic medicine and medical education.
- Interest in clinical research and scholarly activity.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary pediatric care environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to patient centered, family focused care and collaboration.
