Description:
The stepdown/medsurg unit consists of 29 beds currently under construction.
All beds will be stepdown equipped with an expected opening in the first quarter of 2026.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 3:1 for stepdown and 6:1 for med-surg patients.
This is a flexible unit serving both floor and stepdown patients based on the needs of patients and the facility.
The patient population is diverse, primarily with medical diagnoses.
Candidates must be able to handle 6 med-surg patients or 3 stepdown patients effectively.
RNs are required to follow orders written to titrate drips.
Common titratable and set rate drips include heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, and various pain management options.
Charge RNs and house supervisors are available 24/7.
Charge RNs may initially take an assignment when the unit opens, with the goal of having a designated free charge RN.
Clinical Associates (CAs) support the unit, with a target ratio of 3 CAs at all times, making the ratio 1:10.
The unit sees CPAP and BiPAP on the floor and stepdown, while vents and high-flow are seen in stepdown, with adjustments referred to the ICU.
A remote telemetry surveillance center provides monitoring, with central monitoring available on the unit.
RNs are not expected to read their own telemetry strips, as Phillips telemetry monitoring equipment is utilized.
Shifts are 12 hours in duration.
Block scheduling is not guaranteed, but efforts will be made to accommodate requests.
Weekend requirements specify that positions are posted as weekend shifts.
There is no call or standby requirement for this role.
RNs may be the first to float or be pulled to other floor and stepdown units as necessary.
Scrub color and dress code includes any combination of royal blue and white attire.
Cancellation policy includes two shifts for assignments of 13 weeks or more and one shift for shorter assignments.
