Description BEAVER ISLAND COMMUNITY SCHOOL 37895 Kings Highway Beaver Island, Michigan, 49782 Posting Notice: May 29, 2026 Internal and External Posting Job Title: K-12 Special Educator (0.5 FTE) plus a range of multiple faculty and staff duties at the elementary level (0.5 FTE) Position Begins: August 31, 2026 Location: Beaver Island Community School, Beaver Island, MI Days: 186 Beaver Island Community School is surrounded by natural beauty and features small class sizes; interesting and adventuresome colleagues; a commitment to tailoring teaching to student's unique needs and interests; and a supportive community seeking success for all. Job Description This is a full-time multi-faceted position that will include providing at least half-time Special Education direct teaching services. Duties for this aspect of the position include: • Planning and implementing instructional programs for students with disabilities; • Providing individual instruction based on data from tests, records, and observations;
• Supporting inclusion for special needs students; • A range of duties, including: assessment and progress monitoring, IEP writing, maintaining case files and records, conducting parent and teacher meetings, addressing student behavior, developing behavior plans, collaborating with multiple service providers, directing paraprofessionals, completing compliance reports, and staying abreast of developments in the special education field. The composition other half-time aspect of this position may include the following combination of faculty and support staff duties, depending on student needs: • Serving as a special education aide. • Analyzing schoolwide data (behavioral and academic). • Continuous school improvement planning and implementation. • Teaching core classes and/or exploratory specials at the elementary level. Job Qualifications: • Must possess a Michigan Teacher Certificate with one or more special education endorsements as well as elementary endorsement; • Has successful teaching experience with elementary and secondary students; • Is eager and willing to work collaboratively with school staff and parents; • Has demonstrated high-level skills of language, math, reasoning and communications; • Physically able to run and lift up to fifty pounds. • Support the philosophy of providing individualized instruction to every student. • Be able to pass required background checks and complete all paperwork associated with new hires.
