Position Location This position is located onsite at the Job Corps facility in Gulfport, Mississippi. Job Overview Responsible for Center security, transportation and safety program, to include fire prevention, property protection, and orderly operation in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives. Directly supervises the safety and security transportation department and ensures quality delivery of services. Responsibilities Essential Job Duties Plan, coordinate, and direct the administrative activities of the safety, security and transportation department. Oversee management of Center security transportation including staff scheduling. Assist in the development and implementation of new and revised policies and procedures affecting the transportation/security department and Center Safety Programs. Promote student attainment of career success standards through modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring skill acquisition and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed. Review existing policies and measures and update according to policy and legislation. Manage the work- based program for Security. Provide student coverage to meet the needs of the center. Manage the center’s GSA vehicle fleet. Serve as center’s primary Safety Officer. Coordinate, conduct, and document all safety inspections on center in accordance with policy. Develop and maintain the Center’s Safety and Occupational Health plan (OSH), risk assessment plan, emergency plans, and loss accidents, safety equipment failures, and serve as the liaison between Center and insurance underwriters. Serve as Safety Officer and advisor on the Career Technical Skills Training committee. Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics. Test fire and safety systems and intrusion alarms; report malfunctions. Report fires and assist, as appropriate, in suppressing fires. Serve as liaison with federal, state, and local law enforcement, and the fire department. Maintain incident reports, accident documentation, logs, and other records as prescribed by Center guidelines. Review, report and process accident/injury reports for staff and student job related injuries. Identify unsafe practices and develop corrective measures to minimize risk and lost time accidents in accordance with corporate, government and Job Corps regulations Oversee and assist in transporting ill and injured students requiring medical attention. Oversee and assist with the transport of students to work-based learning sites, college, airport and other activities. Must be able to work all shifts day, prime and overnight. Oversee and ensure the security of buildings, vehicles, and property by working with transportation/security department staff to ensure regularly checks of doors, windows, lighting, appliances, equipment, locks, and emergency equipment. Provide or schedule alarm station coverage; ensure that proper student check-in and check-out procedures are followed. Assist Center staff and law enforcement officers in controlling disturbances; investigate and prepare reports on such; coordinate tort claims. Conduct searches and seizures when so authorized; confiscate contraband, weapons, etc., and deliver such to the Center Director for proper disposal. Maintain accountability of students and property. Adhere to standard safety practices. Cultivate and maintain a Center climate which is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect in order to provide a safe place for staff and students in which to work and learn. Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. Perform other duties as assigned. Key Responsibilities Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations. Having the ability to work under pressure as well as ensuring timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work. The proper use of tools and/or equipment commonly used in an office/clerical environment. Completing all mandated training requirements per government and company directives. Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices. Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures. Job Requirements Mandatory Associate degree in related field. Four (4) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties and functions of the job may be substituted for Associate’s Degree. One (1) year supervisory experience. Successfully pass background check and drug test required on the contract. Current, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Preferred Bachelor’s degree. Working knowledge of safety management information systems Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in an office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet. Have a high level of social contact. They work closely with students and other office staff. Communicate with people daily by telephone, e-mail, and in person. Are occasionally placed in conflict situations in which others may become rude or unpleasant. Work as part of a team. Physical Requirements This position requires the employee to be able to frequently required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Work somewhat close to other people, such as when sharing office space. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
