COBOL Mainframe Application Developer

COBOL Mainframe Developer We are looking for an experienced COBOL Mainframe Developer with application architecture knowledge to join our Application Managed Services team. In this role you will collaborate directly with a state agency to maintain and enhance its online Unemployment software and modernize its Disability Insurance software. Primary Responsibilities Analyze architectural requirements and advise the client on design Analyze interdependence between mainframe applications Analyze, design, develop, test and deploy code on a z/OS mainframe platform based on user specifications Translate user requirements into technical specifications and programming solutions Provide technical assistance in solving software problems Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all development processes, including specifications, design and user guides Assist in training and mentoring junior developers and share best practices in mainframe development Ensure proper change management for all requested changes, fixes and enhancements to production applications Participate in 24/7 on‑call support rotation Provide night and weekend Production/QA support Qualifications Legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship, now and in the future Application architecture skills Extensive experience programming in IMS DB and DB2 Required Experience and Skills Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience) At least 12 years of COBOL programming experience in an IBM z/OS mainframe environment Expertise in Job Control Language (JCL) Experience with IMS DB, CA7, DB2/SQL, JCL, MQ, VSAM, CICS, TSO, and FTP Production support experience, including break‑fix support and permanent fixes in production Full development lifecycle experience (Develop, System Test, UAT, Production) Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall software development methodologies Preferred Skills and Experience Experience with InterTest, Expediter debug tools, ServiceNow, Librarian source management, AWS Transform, GitHub Copilot, and public sector projects Extensive experience working with CA7 scheduler Compensation U.S. salary range: $115,080 – $218,520 (full‑time). Location‑specific ranges: California (San Francisco Bay Area): $138,120 – $262,320 California (All Other): $126,600 – $240,480 Colorado: $115,080 – $218,520 Massachusetts: $115,080 – $240,480 New York City: $138,120 – $262,320 Washington: $126,600 – $240,480 Washington DC: $126,600 – $240,480 This position is eligible for Kyndryl’s discretionary annual bonus program based on performance and may also receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical and dental coverage, disability, retirement benefits, paid leave, and paid time off.
