The Hadlock Lab at the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) in Seattle, WA is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to join our multidisciplinary team. We focus on methods for accelerating the development and validation of explainable models for both clinical decision support and insights into mechanisms of disease. Our research includes developing models with multimodal longitudinal data from large prospective population studies (multiomics, imaging, and spatiotemporally-linked exposures), as well as retrospective clinical data (tabular and free text from electronic health records, imaging, and wave-form data). We aim to advance prevention of disease across the lifespan, and are currently conducting research on immune-related medical conditions, maternal-fetal health, and aging. Our team collaborates on NIH-funded research with computer scientists, mathematicians, physicians and biologists nationwide, acting as a catalyst for high-impact projects. We offer the data, tools, support and flexibility needed for a postdoctoral fellow to make rapid progress on novel research. Responsibilities include: Owning biomedical informatics experiments, from initial design through first-authorship publications. Developing and validating machine learning and statistical processes to improve clinical decision support or for gaining insights into mechanisms of disease. Conducting multimodal modeling on high-dimensional longitudinal genomic, phenomic and exposome data. Participating on collaborative research projects with colleagues at ISB and nationwide. Qualifications: Applicants should hold (or shortly be awarded) a PhD in Biomedical Informatics, Computational Biology, Information Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence or a related field. First authorship on one published, peer-reviewed article Expertise in developing and validating machine learning models on biomedical data, from data preparation through validation. Experience with multimodal modeling for clinical decision support or for gaining insights into mechanisms of disease. Strong verbal and written communication Ability to collaborate effectively in an interdisciplinary environment Preferred candidates will also have at one or more of the following: Experience with generative models Experience developing or validating new methods for modeling and analysis Insights into the temporal nature of disease and healthcare delivery: screening, diagnosis and treatment. Experience with integrating semantic knowledge from databases, trees, graphs, ontologies or free text Applicants should include a CV, cover letter and two letters of recommendation. This position is currently funded for one year, and will be renewable annually contingent upon funding and performance.
