Responsibilities include developing an individualized perioperative patient plan of care, protecting the patient from injury, demonstrating safe operation of equipment, speaking up with safety concerns, handling specimens according to facility policy, adhering to standard precautions, complying with Universal Protocol, communicating the patient's current status, administering medications safely, practicing and monitoring aseptic technique, managing patient recovery from anesthesia, assessing patient status, providing nursing care, performing interventions to maintain the patient's tissue perfusion, ensuring scopes are prepared for use, maintaining endoscopy instruments, performing interventions to maintain the patient's systems and balances, ensuring the patient is at or returned to normothermia, protecting the patient from infection, assessing the knowledge level of the patient, providing education, involving the patient in decisions, protecting the patient's rights, dignity, and privacy, providing age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care, evaluating the patient's progress, transferring care, providing hand-off report, delegating tasks, documenting episode of care, demonstrating effective communication, serving as a member of a multidisciplinary team, participating in quality review, participating in the performance appraisal process, using problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, maintaining required competencies, pursuing professional growth, acting as a patient advocate, maintaining privacy and confidentiality, complying with SCA and facility policies, actively participating in team meetings, demonstrating fiscal responsibility, and performing all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include a graduate of an accredited school of nursing, one year of GI, OR and/or medical/surgical nursing experience preferred, current state nursing licensure to practice in good standings, successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment, successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment, successful completion of Pediatric Advance Life support (PALS) course when pediatric care is included in the facility scope of services within 90 days of employment, and specialty certification in GI Nursing is preferred.
