Non-Clinical - Health and Information Management - Trauma Registrar

PARKING: ***** semesterly, paid by the candidate. Please build this into your compensation package prior to quoting pay to the candidate. POSITION ALLOWS FOR HYBRID OR REMOTE: *Candidate must be able to work 1st week on-site *Preference given to candidates that can work 2-3 days in office per week *Equipment not provided by facility DURATION: 13-weeks with option to extend or convert to perm INTERVIEW: Initial will be conducted via Teams, and then a follow up on-site interview may be requested. SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS - Required: High School Diploma or equivalency - Preferred: CSTR - Preferred: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification, certified coding specialist certification (CCS), or Associate's degree in Allied Health field with an emphasis in Anatomy & Physiology EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: - Candidate must be experienced and able to jump right in - there will not be training for this position -This position is not registering patients for the ED - this position is inputting data within a trauma registry database. The candidate must be able to navigate TraumaBase and have experiencing inputting data for patients in this registry using AIS coding - 3-5 years in Trauma Registry (TraumaBase) - 2 years experience in AIS coding within Trauma Registration Databases - Computer skilled: *Must be able to type 20 WPM *Must be familiar with Word and Excel QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES GENERAL SUMMARY The Trauma Registrar assists with gathering patient information from the medical record and enters all patient information required into the trauma registry. Maintains the trauma daily lists, abstracts, performance improvement with registry patients. Assists with compiling statistical information and prepares reports for research and other requests as needed. All employees must adhere to the following at all times: • Employees are expected to adhere to UTMC Service Values including iCare standards at all times. • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures as well as addresses patient safety, performance improvement, and quality of care issues at all times. (List operational departmental focus for patient safety). • Knowledgeable about patient safety and quality of care issues. Able to recognize safety issues in the department and handles incidents per institutional and/or departmental policies and procedures. If safety issues were identified; all issues were handled timely and appropriately. • Department education and training focus has a direct impact on patient safety and reduces unsafe working conditions for employees. (For leaders only). • Employee attends and follows all department specific safety education and training in an effort to create a safe work environment. • Include examples such as: • Frayed Cord: 1. Reports equipment dysfunction in timely manner. 2. Make sure alternate process is in place and action is taken. 3. Reduces adverse results or impact on patient care and the employee. • Recognize exposure to Blood: 1. Worked as a team to limit exposure and create a safe work environment. 2. Safety concerns: no safety concerns have been reported this year and the manager has been timely with staff training and education. • Other sample topics: Observed patient being transported without rails up. Wiping up spills. Rug holes. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Maintenance of Trauma Registry • Identify trauma patients for entry into the Trauma Registry • Locates patients with ED admissions, direct admissions, transfers, discharges • Abstracts data from charts that is required for the Trauma registry including ICD-10 diagnosis, procedures, ISS/AIS, and other information required by NTDB/TQIP/NORTR • Performs data searches, report as requested in the Trauma Registry • Compiles statistical information, analyzes data, and audits for research and other projects • Develops and generates numerous periodical reports to monitor quality indicators, summarize demographics of trauma patient population, and projects future trends • Maintains strict confidentiality of patient information • Assists with preparing reports for Trauma Committee • Calculate ISS • Identify PI and or issues on a case by case review • Data entry and verification (quality control) 2. Assists with trauma clerical functions as required • Produces typed copy from rough written copy or oral instructions involving correspondence, reports and other material of technical or confidential nature • Maintenance of filing and searches files including organizational skills with good follow through. 3. Willing to expand knowledge **** and further develop skills to keep current with latest technology in data processing and other aspects of care. 4. Perform other related duties
